| Just got neutered and sister is in heat. HELP! Ack! My little Bently just got neutered on Thursday. He's doing well in recovery. My problem is his much older adopted sister appears to be in heat. Bently is MISERABLE with frustration any time she is in the house. How long will he still have the drive to mate? Is there anything I can do besides keep them separated? The weather is cold and wet so leaving her outside isn't going to work. |

| You MUST keep them separated as IF he gets excited & his lipstick gets hard you WILL have BIG TROUBLE & possibly another surgery for him. Please call your vet & ask about what can happen. Get her spayed ASAP. Last edited by lillymae; 12-04-2016 at 11:59 PM. |

| You will need to keep them apart for at least 3 weeks. Most people do not know that just because a male is neutered it does not mean they loss interesting in breeding. It is not that uncommon for a neutered male to tie with a female in heat. Your best option would be to get the female spayed if she is not going to be bred; otherwise you will have to go through this every time she comes in heat.
