| Trouble with grooming Hello everyone, I seem to be having trouble in the grooming department. My baby Pynk hates it I don't know what to do she fights and bites yelps and everything it's hard for anyone to groom her. She gets a bath on a weekly basis and she seems like she doesn't like that either. She refuses to let me me clip her nails brush her little teeth just anything that comes along with weekly grooming I have almost given up I don't know what to do. I took her to the vet just to get help with clipping her nail they got them clipped but I had to pay a extra fee because she was difficult to handle Lol. Any advice is welcomed |

| How old is she? Have you tried using treats as rewards?

| Still very young so you have to teach her to like it if that makes since. Like when your brushing her give her treats to show it's a good thing.

Okay let's talk about baths. Do you have a detachable shower head? If so adjust the pressure to gentle. I sing to my dogs in the tub. Yup sing any old ditty will do. Singing helps to relax you! I give treats after bath. Firm but gentle pressure hold under her chin on the bones so she can't bite you. Use your other hand to wash. Nails. Start touching her paws every day. No nail clipping. Just touch. If you have a partner or friend that can treat her when you clip just two nails at a time that would be great I start brushing my dogs on my lap. Even can start with just finger brushing then proceed to a very soft brush.

| I agree with the suggestions given. I have always rubbed, touched my yorkies feet, ears, faces like a massage, so they enjoy it. I also found the type of brush is extremely important. I never realized that brushes can be so uncomfortable or comfortable and it IS worth the price to get a high end brush. My kidz like the Madan brush but I know there are other quality brushes out there as well. I get compliments on how well my kidz do & we enjoy grooming. I believe a little luck is thrown in there too.

| I'm going to take everyone's advice... I really want her to get used to grooming thats a big part of being a yorkie I plan to keep my baby neat at all time... It's just turning out to be a really hard task. She thinks she is the dominant one. I started out really spoiling her because I was so happy to have her... Ive wanted a yorkie for so long. I finally got her and I think I did more harm than good by spoiling her lol (I know that was off topic) thankyou all for the advice. I will post more because you guys seem to know your stuff |

I usually try the brushes out on the inside of my arm. Also of course brush from the hair tips up and hold the hair close to the skin with the other hand. Removal of matts is another long discourse.

| Yup, some good advice on here. Start with short grooming sessions if you can, when lilah used to be more challenging with grooming when she was younger I think I was actually being too rough (not on purpose obviously but I wanted her to be healthy and clean and I think I moved way to fast with my goals vs her level of tolerance) and using a soft bristle boar brush sure helped her get used to being willing to be groomed. It meant we were snuggling and the brushing was quite like petting. The pin brush we use now is madan and it is much better than the brushes with pins that have ball or flat tips on them and catch the hair while brushing. I would take it slow and remember that the big goal is to enjoy/tolerate grooming and even cutting a couple of nails or brushing for five minutes is a great success to start with- good luck!
