| My Yorkie Does not Bark Hi, I do not understand why my 8 yr old yorkie do not bark. I want a dog that barks to let me know if danger is near, or someone coming. I bought her from an original owner when she was 6 yrs old after my maltese died of cancer. It took me a while to get another dog, so a yr later I buy Chloe. The previous owner said she acts like a cat, not a dog. He said she sits in the window all day and stare out at others just like cat. Sure enough this is all she does. She sits in my bedroom window and stare out and when she see another dog she barks. This is the only time she barks. She has never barked to go out, bark when someone is at my door. I want a dog that barks, but dont know what to do. Ive been tryin to train her to bark to go boo boo, but she just stares. What can I do? Anyone experience this? |

| I would like to welcome you to YT, sorry I have no advise for you. All my passed yorkies barked for one reason or another, same with my adopted boy. Hope you get some advise from members that have been faced with this issue.

| My Piper was an adult when she came into my life and for several months was very quiet. As she got more comfortable she became more vocal and now I must reprimand her for barking at sounds that are none of her business! Anyway, do you have friends or neighbors that could help you? Maybe have them knock at your and then in very excited voice ask Chloe "What is that? Who's here?" And you're gonna have to get nuts-crazy excited time and again in order to (hopefully) get a reaction/response. If Chloe ga-ruffs even a little, immediately praise; or if she's food motivated, have a treat in hand for reward. But if she doesn't react, don't push or get frustrated; simply accept you have a uniquely quiet Yorkie and enjoy her for all she is...! |

| The truth is that some yorkies just don't bark and some bark to much. I have been raising yorkies for about 20 year and occasional I would have a yorkie that would not bark. I remember my Little Man would not bark but he would whine if he wanted something.

| For the potty issue, perhaps instead of barking, you can train her to use a bell. For other barking... you had her for two years? I don't know what to say.. I don't think I've heard of anyone wanting their furbie to bark. LOL Hope someone has good advice for you. Btw, welcome to YT! |

| My Troy wasn't a barker. He could bark but just preferred not to. He was very laid back and could care less about what was going on around him. Just enjoy the silence.

| Thank you all for responding to me about my dog not barking, i feel better now knowing she is ok and her not barking is not so unusual. I did try training her to the bell to let me know when she has to poop, that didnt work either. She just looks st me like im crazy. Ive been thinking bout getting her a playmate which may help, so if anyone hears of an adult dog, prferrably maltese, small poodle or small schnauzer, please let me know. I live in michigan. Oh btw, she does not eat dig bones or play with dog toys. All she wants to do is sit in the window like a cat, and she is trained to cat litter as well. Smile!๐๐what can i say.... |

| Hi thx you for your reply. Well i do praise her a lot and she loves it, still nothing. Ive had my daughter knock on door, ring doirbell, nothing happens, chloe just be laying in the corner or she would look at me, nothing more. The reason i got a little dog was to warn me if she hears something, or someone around the house since i live alone. But, i guess that wont happen. I do enjoy the quiet, just wish she would bark if someone came to door or if she heard something outside the house. I still love her though, thx you! |

| Your little gal is wonderfully unique and sounds ever-so sweet. It is no wonder that you're in love with her...! As with the rest of us, our little ones have us adjusting to them and I love the fact that you've accepted her decision not to bark!! Can't tell you how many ways Piper has me adapting to her idiosyncrasies! |

| I have mixed feelings about barking. On the one hand i absolutely love that Duchess will bark to alert me but on the other hand she will also bark if a leaf blows Short of keeping the blinds closed, Duchess barks at everything that moves outside or if she hears any noise including noises coming from the TV. Be careful what you ask for, you just might get it. |

|
lol...too funny and so true!
If I can get a word in bark-wise, Piper has come to understand when I say, "It's on tv; it's just the tv!" Dang those tv doorbells and repeated knocks on a door...! |
