YT 2000 Club Donating Member | OMG. new dog owner I was asked for help today and advice. Get this mix in this five wk old puppy! Rottweiler/Dalmation and Shepherd Wolf mix. I said I wished you had asked me before adopting this pup! She was blindsided on the age was told it was nine wks old when going to pick it up the breeder told her it was born Aug 1st!!! She has asked me for help with supplies collars leads and she wanted a harness. I said that dog should not be walked on a harness. Crates etc! Oh boy. The only good note so far is it can be rolled on its back easily with no negative response. She has two children at home, nine and seven yrs old. So we talked about bite inhibition. How do I teach that, she asks? I told her then spent an hour writing a more detailed instruction manual. Food vaccines and grooming. Of course the breeder is no where available. So here I go again. She lives close to me and I have agreed to help her out with training. At eight wks I will do atemperament test on the pup. I get so very angry with these so called breeders. I could just spit

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | I know this is not about Yorkies, but I plead that future dog owners buy with their minds first and not their hearts!!!!!! Let me assess the risks of this bloody mix. Aggression with both rottie and shepherd in it round about 70. Dominance about the same. Reliability is a crap shoot with the wolf in it. This is not the dog for the first time dog owner. She is that is the owner a single mom with two kids and not much money. Oh and the dog appears to be tracking to an adult weight of prix ninety pounds!

| Rottweiler/Dalmation and Shepherd Wolf mix. What??? Who on earth could possibly think this mix is a good idea---on any level? Geez louise---and with 7 and 9 yr olds? Unbelievable and totally irresponsible (not your what-was-she-thinking friend, but that no account breeder). And she's lucky you're making yourself available because you, gemy, can make a difference...if it's possible to do so!! |

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Thank you, I am very concerned on a number of fronts. I see this as a disaster waiting to happen. I tell you truthfully I would never adopt buy this mix. The owner is unlikely to be able to put in the time necessary to train and socialize this puppy. I am starting to plan out my training sessions and will consult wth my trainer tonight.

| Thank you, I am very concerned on a number of fronts. I see this as a disaster waiting to happen. I tell you truthfully I would never adopt buy this mix. Truth be told, I feel exactly the same way, but did not want to come across as too harsh or too bold. Were it up to me, but in these instances it never is...I would rehome that puppy today. Then I'd give this woman (who, in no way needs a puppy, dog, or any other living responsibility) a book on dog breeds. The pup she has now is going to be waaay too much for her within months; and really, I don't see any canine standing much of a chance in that household for the foreseeable future. We all know how 'right now' kids are, how quickly their interests change, etc. I could go on, but have already ranted plenty for now! |

| Gonna be a real test of nature vs nurture, genetics vs treatment. That dalmation even spooks me.... decades ago I recall that they have a tremendous amount of unpredictability, friendly as all get out one second then something snaps, and someone's face gets tore up. 100 n 1 dalmations made em popular for quite a while. Kids were the usual victims. |

| Okay, first- Ahhhhhhhh! Where is the emoji face for grieving distress? Secondly, I truly feel that this kind of situation- in regard to the breed of the dog, which is a terrible combination if I have ever seen one- is perpetuated by the disregard and disdain for breeders and consequently breeds. Everyone (at least here in Portland) wants a rescue, wants a mutt and I see people who are not only disrespectful to the joy of having a specific breed of dog (yes purebred) and disrespectful to breeders but who would honestly be embarassed if they didn't "adopt don't shop" and find themselves accepting any crazy rehabilitation cross or back yard breeder produced puppy (yes they bought it at the humane society, does that stop the unregulated breeder? No) with the delusion that we are all suited for the rigors of raising a puppy of questionable background with unpredictable traits AT BEST and worse and more likely rehabbing the broken or walking into another messed up situation with puppies who aren't vaccinated, dewormed etc. My little sister has a border collie lab mix- ahem, so they say but I tell you what I see a lot more in there than that, if that- and God bless her for the trials, the obedience classes the struggles she has gone through to 'make it work' but It has been huge to share our perspectives and watch her gain understanding about he benefits of breed traits and GOOD breeders. It is a huge concern to see the mentality this kind of thought process is bringing- that everything and every mix of everything is okay for everybody and that you really should just close your eyes and sign because 'everyone should do rescue' or 'guess that puppy' and God forbid you want a developed breed, you know maybe who retrieves or hunts or has a predictable temperament, or would contact a -gasp- breeder. Bless you Gail. Know when to walk away if you need to. Your in my thoughts. *okay, realized I was so ranty my point may have been all Over the place. Why a single mama of two young children would say- hey, this is okay. Instead of researching a breed appropriate to her situation. Sorry guys, geesh. I should go to bed, lol.

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Okay we have had a couple more convos. She told me she loves wolves and is excited to see this pup grow. Next day she contacts me and said I am going to need to train a lot aren't I? I said yes every day for years. Can be short bursts of time. But daily! I need to talk with my trainer breeder and see if she can donate some time. Come up have a social visit and dinner with me and help with temp assessment. I already have one place I might be able to place pup, if things go to hell in a ha d basket. My good protection trainer mike. Hopefully it won't come to that. He rescues the failures. Another good note for this gal is she put her pride aside and. Essentially asked for donations of equipment and time. That I hope bodes well.

I think what also feeds into this is affordability. Folks only look at the cheap purchase price and or that it is free. No such thing as a free dog as every dog lover knows. Hey the did I mention that the quebec spca placed eight eight wk old pups of my large breed with no disclosure as to what they need to do. Oh. And did I also mention. they neutered before placement, and this with a breed of over 30 percent hip and elbow dysplasia.

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | We had our first training session today. It went fairly well. I did end up with two bite marks on my hand, just one more than I thought I would get. He only tried twice to jump up on me, he was corrected appropriately. The biting is a concern as he bit harder when I corrected him for it. I talked to the owner at length about this. There is a difference between being puppy mouthy and biting down. He got scared of me, and that was okay. He should be respectful of her as his owner. He isn't. He is now respectful of me He was as he should be submissive to my big boy magic and ok with the wee one razzle.
