Help - is this a reputable breeder? In my search for a yorkie, I have filled out so many puppy questionnaires and contacted about 4 different breeders now! I'm exhausted from all the essays I've had to write haha! So it's been a long and daunting search, but I have narrowed down to about 3 breeders. Two of these breeders are show breeders, so that being said I do feel more comfortable with that as I know exactly what I will be getting in terms of pure bred, temperament and all of those important things that come out of responsible breeding. That being said, there is one other breeder, however she does not show any dogs. She has several litters a year as she has quite a few studs and dams. She does breed parti's as well. So with that, I am sometimes a little hesitant because I can't really by sure if they are truly pure bred - not to say that parti's aren't but I know it is a little controversial. (I am personally looking for traditional colors). I am hoping that someone wouldn't mind taking a peek around her website - but more importantly her facebook page as she has a lot more photos of her puppies. I am just hoping someone can give me some insight as to whether or not they look like pure bred yorkies. Any insight would be greatly appreciated! She is asking $2500 for males and $3000 for females, so I want to make sure I get what I pay for. (If I do decide on this particular breeder). mysunshineyorkies https://www.facebook.com/search/top/...20saskatchewan Thanks again everyone, it's been a long search and even longer wait (2 and half years) so I want to make sure I make the best decision.

fail, per other's recommendations here, 12 weeks minimum... "We believe strongly, to avoid separation anxiety, they can go to their new homes when ready after eight weeks."

You know, I just read that when I was going over that page again just now. I personally wouldn't take a pup home before 12 weeks even if it was offered.

a couple, a few, of her breeders are US pups.... I don't know the ins and outs about transferring from AKC to CanadianKC but be aware of the paper trail... There's a US based CKC that is a sham.... Make sure you're getting Canadian Kennel Club registered pups and not the US based CKC..

8 weeks definitely seems a bit early. Also on the parents page she lists some pretty small females that are used for breeding. Any breeder with ethics wouldn't breed a small female. Based on initial impressions, I'd be pretty weary of that breeder. Also, the prices for a pet yorkie are very high. She's definitely way up there with the prices. I'd also want to know more about her dogs, where she got them from and what's in their pedigrees and many other things. I'd have tons of things to ask. And as you've mentioned already breeding the parti and chocolate is really contentious. To me, initially, it seems like there is some red flags. Who are the other 3 breeders you've contacted besides sunshine yorkies? Have you only looked at breeders in Saskatchewan?

| In my opinion no she's not. She lets the puppies go before 12 weeks and she breeds females under 5 pounds which is dangerous (she breeds females 3 pounds) also generally reputable breeders will not breed for color faults like chocolate.

The last few puppies she is not yet breeding because they are still too young she said (born 2015) but you're right, some of the others namely Frankie is rather small (just over 3 pounds) so that is a bit a yikes.

| Unfortunately the only two breeders I have found here in SK is the one mentioned above, and another show breeder who actually lives quite close to my city but she is not currently accepting applications. The other breeders I have contacted are all show breeders, and so only breed for hopes of a show quality pup for themselves, and any others they may sell. I just have better gut feelings with these ones because of that, and they are truly breeding to better the Yorkshire Terrier breed. This way I know what I'm getting and what I am paying for in terms of temperament, health issues, and all those important aspects. Not to mention the morals and ethics of the breeders themselves. I will list their websites below. They all live in Alberta which is out of province, but I am willing to make the drive. http://veeveeyorkies.wix.com/home Vanessa at VeeVee Yorkies Yorkhaven - Home Page Cathy at Yorkhaven CwnAnnwn Yorkshire Terriers (Not certain on her name - but seems reputable none the less) It's also worth mentioning that Vanessa (so far the only other breeder to respond back at this point in time) is pricing her pups at $2500, no more than that. Which is a fair price and the standard I have seen in my area. My Sunshine Yorkies are selling theirs for 2500-3000 depending on the gender, size and color - which again only makes me more weary, when a show breeder is selling for a firm $2500. | I believe the name of the breeder in the 3rd link you posted is Sandra. I've met her and I've seen one of her show dogs as well as two puppies she had at that time. I chatted with her quite a bit and she's very knowledgeable and I would not hesitate to call her reputable. I know she was planning on having litters sometime soon. She's also friends with Michelle from Yorkhouse Kennels - Chinese Crested & Yorkshire Terriers Michelle is also a breeder in the Edmonton area that has been breeding for nearly 30 years. If you get a chance to chat with either of them, you'll see that they just have a wealth of information regarding all things breeding and yorkie related. They also don't fit the stereotype personality of a show breeder. They're both very kind and laid-back. I wouldn't hesitate to contact either of them to get the ball rolling and do an application and interviews and maybe arrange a visit and all that stuff. Hopefully Sandra and the other breeders gets back in touch with you, and you can go from there. I can't speak of the other breeders you've mentioned, but hopefully I've helped you somewhat. I know it's really tough to find a breeder that you can be confident in. Breeders, just in general it seems, are known to be dishonest and not the best type of people. But there are some very good ones out there. Lastly, 2500 seems a touch on the high side. In Alberta I'd expect somewhere between 1500-2000 for a yorkie. But who knows? There are some breeders in Edmonton and Calgary selling pet yorkies for 5000 plus. But that's a different discussion I suppose. |

For some reason I can't seem to edit my post. So I'll just do another post to add on what I forgot to mention. I realized that my previous post regarding price might come across as I'm saying you're getting ripped off. And that certainly is not what I meant. Everyone else might be around that price point too. Maybe the price increases every year just like some other things in life. But 2500 certainly would be the top of the top for me. You'll have to see what others are at. But I would not go a penny more, and I would expect a bit less. 1500-2000 range.

Airplaine - I've actually spent quite a bit of time looking at [Sandra's?] facebook page and all her dogs, and honestly I have absolutely fallen in love! I think I was no more than melted puddle on the floor by the time I was done! I also love that she posts little stories about the pups on every photo she posts of them, very cute and funny and really gives you insight into each particular pup and their personalities. I have reached out to her, and I do hope she gets back to me. I'm glad to hear some one who has a personal experience talking with her. Lovestiny - I have long decided that [Brenda] from My Sunshine Yorkies is just not the breeder for me. Too many questionable things about the dogs themselves, as well as some ethics and morals that come in to play. I so appreciate everybody taking the time to lend me some insight on everything!
