Yorkie Yakker | Mya update So....Mya is currently getting Pro Plan Veterinary EN canned dog food. (She's not crazy about it but will eat it with a little boiled chicken stirred in) She's been on it for 10 days and has had only 2 bowel movements!!!! (Last nite gave her tsp. of pumpkin per vet to get things moving & she did have good, normal bowel moment this morning but now today has not eaten a thing) Then I read that the first ingredient in this food is MEAT By Products; which apparently means it could be just about ANYTHING!!!!?? (The list is gross...) Why would a vet recommend and sell a food like that or is there something I am missing here???? I went on Dog Food Advisor.com and just got more confused........ How do you all sift through information and decide WHAT to give your furbaby!!! Mya is fussy, has this tummy thing going on now (gets diarrhea) but I am overwhelmed by the vets advice and reading ingredient lists on bags of dog food. I have ordered some Royal Canin Gastrointestinal Low Fat dry dog food and we are going to give that a try. Even though dogfoodadvisor.com does not give Royal Canin a very good rating. Only 2 out of 5 stars!!!!! I have started Mya on the ProBiotic Max from Natures Farmacy so we'll keep moving forward. I feel most comfortable hearing input from you all cuz' you're Yorkie people. You know these little dogs!!!!

| I am not sure; but there are other options. When Chewie was regularly constipated I would give her pureed pumpkin and kix in her kong treat and she'd eagerly eat it. It really did wonders for her BM's. IF, for some reason, you aren't able to change to a different food, maybe something like that? I admit I would give chews a bit more than the doc asked me to. I am not going to advise you to go against vet orders, just telling you she'd get 2 tablespoons a day of it while under constant constipation. I hope this helps you. |

I also wanted to add. A member sent me a vitamin additive as my little gal was refusing any kibble put in front of her. Some, ones that are considered high end such as RC and Science diet gave her runs, gas, constipation, or a combo of these symptoms. She equated kibble- pain. She was hell bent on the boiled hamburger, bison, or any meat and the carbs. That's all she wanted. The member sent me fromms, too. She adores that line. ESPECIALLY the Lamb and Lentil flavor. The missing link helped a great deal as well. I'd recommend Fromm's completely as well as the Raw diet. That's just from my exhaustive search for something she'd eat. | |
