| Is cheese poisonous to yorkies? One of my daughter's friends gave my chewie a little piece of grated cheese. I've heard butter is horrible for them, and so I'm making certain that cheese isn't on the list of toxic foods. He's apologetic, but it doesn't help that it happened. It says any dairy. I can't find a definitive answer, so I was hoping that you guys could tell me. After the orchid incident 3 days ago, I'm left wondering WHAT my little gal WON'T eat. So far, it's anything she can get her wee paws on. I know I'm full of questions; I did check on google, which is the fastest way to get one of this boards threads on the topic. |

| It can be a problem if your pup is lactose intolerant, so it should be avoided. Anything fatty should be avoided because of the risk of pancreatitis.

| I'm SO careful; she eats everything. He didn't mean it, but I told him just from now on, NOTHING that I don't put in his hand to give her as a treat allowed. To top it off, the little terrier mix at the home behind us that he goes to, to see friends, let this little guy eat two sticks of butter last night, so he said I thought it was okay, I'm sorry. Doesn't change it, but I tell you, I'm glad that for once I was lazy and bought pre-shredded cheese. Thank you, I really hope that she doesn't get nauseated or gassy from that little tiny bit. |

| I know what you mean, Cookie was exactly like that as a puppy. Anything whatsoever she'd find went in her mouth. It was maddening at times. You can keep your house clean, but you can't keep sticks and bird poop and rotten pecans and bread the birds brought in and everything else under the sun off the ground outside. Thankfully that ended once she got to around a year old. I don't know if it was my hawkeye or if it's just something she grew out of. Probably the latter.

| I do not feed a pound or so, but they all love cheese and they get cheese frequently....it is fine! Mine LOVE cottage cheese as well, and they get cheese in some form, at least twice a week....they love cheddar cheese and I have always sprinkled some shredded cheddar on their food as a treat.....not an overdose, but they so enjoy it....lightly sprinkled over their scrambled eggs on the weekend, or in a little bit of an omelet.... Butter is not the same as cheese, the fat content in butter is much, much higher than a small piece of cheese! Absolutely no butter!! But cheese is fine for them, just like everything else....in little bits. Last edited by Yorkiemom1; 03-27-2016 at 09:34 PM. |

| Coco and Lola goes nuts over CHEESE! They love Cheddar Cheese, but I don't usually give them a lot. It's usually twice a month or when I put flea control pills inside it. Hehe! They just swallow it up! |

| Our crew each gets one teeny piece--about the size of the tip of my pinkie-- of processed cheese (not the healthiest) each morning while I'm cooking breakfast. As soon as they hear the wrapper, they all come running. When Barney goes into hiding, I can yell, "cheeeeese," and out he comes.

Yes! The word at our house is go. As a matter of fact, my hubs and I have started spelling it---which they've caught on to---- when either of us is about to "leave". Definitely have to be careful which words we use as triggers. Unfortunately, I started using trick training time to grab Barney for a bath. Now, when we do trick training, he hides.

| I stand corrected on cheese. I still prefer giving my pup poblanos and bell peppers. She goes absolutely nuts for them, but sometimes I catch her dragging down my poblano plants to eat the peppers before they're even close to full grown haha. So all my poblano plants lean over to the side.

| Max and Teddy have a tiny bit of shredded Parmesan on a regular basis. I give them 2 - 3 tiny pieces (shreds) each. Doesn't take much to make them happy and to avoid tummy problems.

| When momma was still alive, when she and I would go shopping, we had "special words"..."Krogering", Samming", etc...then they caught onto those words and we started spelling....when 3 of mine heard us spelling, they would come running and sit/stand there, looking up at us, as if they were trying to understand the spelling.....one day, momma was spelling "Foleys" and when she got halfway thru the word, she stopped and looked at me and said...."If someone would have told me the day would come when I had to SPELL WORDS in front of DOGS so they wouldnt know what I was talking about, I would have told them they had lost their minds!" |
