| Eye Crude My Smokie has tearing of the eyes and sometimes he gets eye crude (eye boogers) which hardens. I try to wipe under his eyes with a warm cloth and at times I put vaseline on them to soften it up. Sometimes it irritates his skin when I try to get it off. I read online that putting Bausch & Lomb Eye Wash under his eyes may help with this. Has anyone tried this or have any other suggestions that may help with this issue? Thanks....... |

| I have used the eye wash to clean under the eyes but the real answer is to stay on top of it and clean the area every day to keep it from building up and getting crusty. One of mine has spring allergies and the eye buggers are a daily battle for a couple of months. My vet suggested a little dab of Neosporin under each eye. It's a little messy but it keeps the skin from becoming irritated and the eye buggers wipe right off with a wet cotton ball. Burt's Bees makes a mild, soothing eye wash for dogs. Diana |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Mine get hte crud too and I turn warm water on and keep dipping a cotton ball in and soaking the eye area w/ water until the crud just slides right off. Keep adding water.

| I just use a warm wet wash cloth and tearless puppy shampoo on their faces.

| Eye Crude Thanks everyone for responding to my question! I was already wiping his face with a warm wash cloth, but I wasn't doing it every day. I also saw some good suggestions from this thread. I called the Vet and was told to put some vaseline around his eyes to keep the hair out and suggested dab a little saline under his eyes and a warm wet wash cloth to clean the crude around the eyes. I was already sometimes putting vaseline around his eyes. I guess the key is to stay on top of it and clean it everyday. With all of this information I will be able to take care of it.... Thanks again. I am sure Smokie will appreciate it..... |

| Another good alternative to Vaseline is coconut oil. Better on the hair and for the cases of ingesting it

| My Maggie has dry eyes and that causes her eyes to tear. Only way to keep up with the gook is to wash it out everyday. Has your Yorkie been tested for dry eyes? If he has them then that can lead to many eye infections. To avoid them I put in eye drops 2 x a day . |

| I love using the mustache comb to get the eye stuff out. There's also this eye wipe that I use often. mimimomo sells both and I believe she gives discounts to YT members. toplinepet.com |
