| ![]() Ok.....first let me start off by saying I'm a worry wart by nature, I can't help it. 2nd, we've always had male dogs. Paisley is only 10wks old. I'm trying to stick to my guns with her and do things "right". Bailey, our late Maltese, was 8wks when we got him. He cried so much at night I caved and put him in bed. Grady, our 7yr old Coton, was 4mo when we got him. He was sleeping in bed within a week. With Paisley, she seems so small (2.5lbs). We have a new mattress set that is much higher off the ground.... I just don't feel like having her in bed is safe. Plus, she moves around so much when she's slept on my lap...that makes me scared she'd fall off the bed. So, she's been sleeping in the dining room without fuss. Yesterday she started going to the pee pads in the dining room from playing in the living room to potty on her own. Today.....She just put herself to bed! I was holding her because I could tell she was getting tired and fighting sleep. When I've done this before I'd rub her ears and she'd go to sleep in my lap. Then I'd transfer her to her bed. Tonight she was super squirmy so I put her down to see what she was going to do. She trotted off to the dining room, climbed up on her bed and laid down! I waited a min or two to see if she was going to get back up. She didn't so I got up and put up the open gate....She didn't get up. There hasn't been a peep. I'm nervous she's not going to be an affectionate dog when she gets older! We're working on the biting now (yes, normal puppy stuff). I love and kiss on her as much as she'll allow. But, never having a female before I'm not sure if I'm expecting too much or am freaking out too soon. I don't think the breeder spent as much time with the puppies as she claimed. She was always getting a bath because she "rolled in poop in the pen" but I've had her 10days and that's NEVER happened here. The house was way too chaotic for my preferences. I know she was handled rough by a young child, in my presence, when I was picking her up so who knows what happened before I saved her. The breeder had the puppies around a full grown pitt bull. Just a lot of things I found out at the time I picked her up I wasn't happy with. Opinions?? |

| ![]() It sounds like you are doing well with her and I wouldn't worry that she might not be an affectionate girl, she just needs time to adjust to her forever home with you ![]() I would recommend you include in her bed some sort of toy or blanket that is her own. That way she will get her scent into it and that will create a greater feeling of security and peace for her which will inturn, make her naturally more at ease to feel your love and inturn, love you back even more ![]() She sounds SO precious, I can just see her cute little 2.5 pound body, brings back such fond memories of my second yorkie girl Chloe when she was that tiny ![]() Hope you two continue to grow your deep love affair for one another, I have no doubt you both will, you sound like a very attentive yorkie Mom ![]() All the best with all your furbabies!!! | ![]() Piper is independent; she wasn't aloof, but she wasn't a snuggler either. I didn't push insofar as holding her or picking her up, etc. as I wanted to give her choices and wanted her trust. During this last year, Piper has become much more affectionate--giving smooches, crawling onto my lap, standing up in order to be picked-up...I don't believe you have anything to worry about--at all. Paisly sounds like a secure, confident girl who will probably become more and more affectionate as she settles in...Thank goodness you found this little doll and got her away from that rough place. You and Paisly are meant to be...! |

| ![]() I have been told that boys are more affectionate that being said Bella is a very loving girl. I think boys are pleasers maybe girls are a bit independent. When Bella was 12 weeks we brought her home and put her in our bed the first night all went well we put her between our pillows (king size bed) and she slept all night the next night we took her to bed and she started running around the bed and wouldn't settle so I took her to a crate we had set up, She started crying and I let her for a while then went and got her she settled right down and did ever night since she is now almost three. We had always intended to let her sleep with up. She just had to figure out what was expected of her. If you are worried about your mattress just put a cover on the bed and maybe a pee pad or two. We have stairs up to the bed and Bella always uses them our bed is high. I would say her personality is all ready set, she sounds like a very confident girl. |

| ![]() when my husband traveled to the breeder, he was choosing between two sisters, they seemed very similar temperament wise, so he chose the one who I fell in love with via photos-just the sweetest face. In the beginning, our girl was sweet and loving but within weeks, she became the most affectionate dog you could imagine. She is a total snuggler and face licker. BUT all six of us are very affectionate and spend a lot of time with her, she is our lovey. We saw her sister this summer, who is very sweet and loving, but you can see she isn't the mushy, lap loving, face licker that Ella is. So I think it is an example of nature versus nurture since they both started off so similar? |

| ![]() I really think so because they were such similar gals and at four months, the breeder seemed to really know them very well. Our other lifetime dog, a beloved maltese, was the same type of affectionate. Now, I am sure there are some dogs who might not have it in them to be like this, but it just seems very interesting to me ![]() |

| ![]() I have had 4 female yorkies.now all have passed. I had them at 8 weeks old, they were sweet, loving and cuddle bugs. I now have an adopted neutered boy, he was 2.5 y/o when I adopted him, he is now 4 y/o. I see no difference in affection between him and my passed girls. I have also read boys are more affectionate, but my own personal experience I see no diff.between my adopted boy and 4 girls raised by me from 8 weeks old.

| ![]() I have both male/female. Close to 1 year apart. They're both affectionate but if I had to pick one, I'd say Zoey's the more affectionate one. Also the more "mama's girl". Basically, she doesn't care of anyone (human & non human) except her pack (my parents, me, her fur brother). But even within our "pack", she favors me the most. Along with it, comes affection. ![]() |

| ![]() Thank you all so much. I had read that too....that boys are more affectionate. But Yorkies are a very popular breed where I work and those with females said they were affectionate. I really wanted a little girl this time. Do all the pink with and bows/dresses. Paisley does crawl up into your lap now. She's a face licker too. The breeder told me she would turn her head when she tried to kiss her. She doesn't do that with me. She'll let me kiss her right on her mouth then she kisses me back. Got to be careful or you'll get a puppy tongue in your mouth! We can go back and forth like that a few times. It's just weird that what the breeder told me about her hasn't held true. Which makes me wonder how much time was actually spent with her. We're very affectionate and loving towards our babies. The boys we've had were/are bigger babies. She's got that independent streak in her. it'll be interesting to see if it grows as she does. I'll just keep on doing things as I've done so far. |

YT 500 Club Member | ![]() Izzy has always been super affectionate. Toby started out aloof and independant. But he is getting moore and more affectionate every day. Maddie is an affectionate little lover, too. I think it just depends on their own personality and environment on how they turn out.

| ![]() It just depends sometimes they can be not as affectionate but become more affectionate in time too. If you told me chachi was going to be affectionate when he was a pup I never would have believed you because he was all about play. On the other hand Jewels was affectionate and submissive as aa pup and she is the same way today so they are all different
