| Help! Yorkie won't sleep through the night My Fiance and I just got our first Yorkie puppy in July. Millie is 8 months old and has been an amazing addition to our home. The problem we are currently having is 100% our fault, but I would still love to help on how to fix it! When we brought Millie home, our trainer told us to let her sleep in our room, in a crate on the floor. Our trainer also told us that we should take her out once a night, because she was very little for her age and wouldn't be able to hold it. After awhile, we started letting Millie sleep in our bed once she woke up in the middle of the night. She would start in her bed and ultimately finish in ours. As time went on, we noticed she would cry earlier and earlier throughout the night, hoping to get into our bed as soon as possible. When we started putting her back in her crate, she would wake up every hour on the hour and cry until we put her in bed with us. We finally got this under control, but have now created a dog who expects to go to the bathroom 2x in the middle of the night (2am and 4:30am). My parents are going to be watching her for a few nights in 3 weeks and that will not be tolerated. Any suggestions on breaking her from this cycle?! We need help! |

| Hi welcome at 8 months old she should not need to go in the middle of the night. Bella at 12 weeks didn't go in the night. The only way I can see if you don't want her in your bed is to let her cry it out maybe in another room maybe an xpen would be a good Idea. Others may have better ideas. We brought Bella home and put her in our bed and that is were she sleeps sound all night she is almost 3 now. good luck |

| You are going to have to let her cry for a few nights until she gets out of the habit of being let out. Think about it: she has been trained that if she yelps she gets what she wants. Put her in another room so she doesn't disturb you and in a few nights she'll get the new routine.

| have you trained her using a puppy pad? My little girl sleeps in the same room with us and doesnt bother us because she gets up and does her thing on her pad...she doesnt sleep on our bed because she is too small to jump on it...although I know she would love to! Mine is almost 7 months...

| Yea..once you start letting them on the bed its a wrap. It's no longer just your bed! Lol I ended up caving in and just letting him sleep on the bed. If you are worried about germs just get her her own blanket and teach her to stay on that blanket, that's what I did at first but now I just wipe his paws and his private with a wet paper towel and let him up

| You may want to try to more activity before going to bed perhaps a longer walk or tug of war playing.... maybe train her on potty pad if your folks won't be taking her outside. Good luck! |

YorkieTalk Newbie! | We put doggie stairs so our dogs can get up in bed and down to go potty when they want. Sometimes they just want water. But I found Abbey almost one year old now, would wake me up a couple times a night and not want anything or so I thought. It turned out Abbey was cold, I put a sweater on her and she sleeps thru the night. Abbey's hair is thinner than Minnie, Minnie sleeps thru the entire night. |
