| Just adopted/rescued 5yr old female. Now What? Hello, I have always wanted a Yorkie and circumstances put one 1 in my lap. She is 5ys. Apparently she was a breeder dog and the owners were done with her. I don't know her history but I have her"CKC" certificate of Registration and apparently the name of the vet who vaccinated her last. I can tell that she needs some dental work but seems healthy. She is coming along slowly by nicely. After a 10 days with me that tightly tucked tail finally came up and wagged a bit . Her appetite has improved but she looks like she is getting fat. Could she be pregnant? I'm waiting until she is a bit more comfortable with me before taking her to the vet. Any suggestions at this point? |

| Hi there are lot more here that have more experience than I. If you suspect she is pregnant I would get her to vet to make sure and if she is to get proper care.(I think 5 is a too old for her to have pups) God bless you for taking her and good luck.

| Here is a good thread for rehabbing a puppy mill rescue, and it has some good advice even if she was just heavily breed and not a pet per se: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...nt-advice.html Time, and patience is your main course of action. Let her come to you, and do not force affection on her before she is ready. Thanks for rescuing. Too many dogs do not get that second chance they deserve!!

| Welcome to YT and thank you for rescuing this little girl. The first thing to do when you get a puppy or a rescue dog is take them for a vet check 24 to 48 hours after you get them. 24 hours is ideal. I have never breed a dog so cannot help with what to look for or how long before you see a vet to find out if she's pregnant, I will say, since you have her 10 days and didn't take her for a vet check, I would make that a priority. Get to vet ASAP. Hopefully some of our breeders may be able to offer up what to look for in early stage of pregnancy.

Please have this little girl checked out immediately, that is just what you do with a new dog you take into your home, and if there is any question of the mommas life being at risk, terminate the pregnancy immediately, before you loose the entire shooting match, including this little female. | |
