| ![]() I will soon be getting my first ever yorkie! I am very excited, but I want to try and convince my dad to let me *us get 2. Us being my sister. We are one year apart, and I know we would both "fight" over the puppy. We once had a cat, and that happened. Also having 2 dogs is better, so if we go out to dinner, it won't be lonely. Does anyone have any ideas of how to convince him? P.S. It has taken over a decade to convince him to let us get one, and he isn't easily persuaded. |

| ![]() Find a way to earn the earn the money for the second one would be a great start. That would show determination and commitment.

| ![]() In addition to the issue of potty training 2 Yorkies there is the increase vet costs of 2 dogs. When young there are the necessary immunization, spaying, and possibly yearly dentals - that is not bringing in any illnesses or injuries. As they (or we humans too) age they need more health care. Then there is the monthly cost of getting health insurance for the pups, which is always a good idea. The cost of purchasing the pups is the cheapest part of pet ownership. So here is my question - can you afford these costs? It is a big commitment and these dogs often live to be 14 or 15 years old if well cared for. Wishing the you the best of luck with your Yorkie future!

| ![]() Don't know how old you are but.. hopefully, you know how much it takes to take care of a dog. And how it's nothing like caring for a cat. Money is a big factor too so as Mayzoo mentioned, I think it would help your cause if you find a way to earn money or save your allowances exclusively for the pup. Perhaps draw up a contract that lists what you'll be responsible for when it comes to the pup. (like walking x number times a day, feeding, potty training, etc) And if you don't follow through, you and your dad can come up with the consequences. Alot of the issues I see is when the child wants a pup and "promises" to take care of him/her but ultimately, the duties fall on the parents. Perhaps that's what your dad might be concerned with? Good luck to you! |

| ![]() How old are you and your sister? I have two yorkies. Teddy & Lola, they are brother and sister from the same litter. It's definitely not that easy to have two. Sure they won't be lonely when you guys go out to do things as a family or as teenagers, but that doesn't make it ok to leave them all the time. They are basically children and will take up all your free time, take away from your sleep, they will poop, pee and sometimes throw up all over your floor, bed, couch, ect. Accidents happen. Vet care they need their vaccinations, wellness exams, spay/neuters, if any health issues or injuries arise that's an emergency visit which can be quite costly. You'll need pet insurance for both. The list can go on...if your dad is just now agreeing to get you a puppy after 10 years, I would just be happy with that and not ask for more. You can give it a try, but I would do the same things that Mayzoo and Magnus suggested save up your own money to put toward the other puppy and come up with a contract. Good luck! |
