| ![]() Max & Sasha are fine with the storms. Katrina (cat) is petrified. Tries to crawl under the furniture every time it storms. Max and Sasha do not like power tools. We have been doing a lot updating on the house lately and they both go crawl in a corner together when I use a power saw in the garage.

| ![]() My boy loathes storms, fireworks or any noise like that. He goes crazy and runs around barking as if he were being assaulted! Nothing I can do to help him. Tried the Thunder Shirt, calming liquids etc, but to no avail. For fireworks that are more predictable, I keep him in a small room with the TV on HIGh MUSIC and sometimes it works. It is so sad as he really is scared. He must have had some bad experience with noise before I adopted him? |

YT 1000 Club Member | ![]() I am very lucky that none of my current fur babies are afraid of thunder. Teek came to me being the kind of dog that just doesn't hardly notice thunder at all. Gatlin will let out a low growl when it is really loud to let it know that he didn't like it. Raksha will curl up with you but is not afraid. Rowan on the other hand will bark at the thunder and let it know that he is not afraid! When Raksha and Rowan were little I would go outside and let them see the dump truck while they were getting our dumpster and have them outside when motorcycles went by. My previous dog, Abby was terrified of storms and would be curled up against me if there was any thunder. She is the reason I now have 3 Yorkies. If she hadn't had cancer and passed I wouldn't have my 3 babies I have now. I still miss her, but with these guys around it is hard to be sad over her loss. She was a very special dog and will always hold a place in my heart, but then what dog doesn't? That is funny about your english class and everyone getting it on one fact! LOL. My daughter is 17 and she posts a ton of pics of her puppy on instagram. I don't have instagram (I use facebook) so she will usually also put them on facebook just so I can see them.

| ![]() Cody goes into Cujo mode when he hears thunder,he wants to kill it, same with power tools. Last summer I had to have my roof worked on, they were using a nail gun, one guy came off the roof, laid the gun on the deck and Cody attacked it lol. He's not afraid and shows Mr Thunder with his growling lol.

| ![]() Watching this one with interest and hoping to get some ideas. We realized in July that the rescue we adopted in November is terrified of thunder and lightning. Since our summer monsoon rains hit in July he has been a mess. His whole body trembles, he shakes and pants and paces and can't sit still. It lasts from the first lighting bolt or rumble of thunder until an hour or two after the last one. Sometimes he gets himself so worked up that he will vomit, and he usually also won't eat the next morning after a storm. Rain doesn't bother him at all - its only the thunder and lightning. Things we've tried: Everything but a behaviorist, and that is likely going to be our next step. We've tried the calming stuff like rescue remedy, thunder shirt, keeping him crated in an interior room and playing music or TV loudly, and have now resorted to tranquilizers from our vet. The tranquilizers do work if we can get them in him in time, but they take about an hour to kick in, so by the time we realize a storm is coming, it's too late. And honestly I don't like tranquilizing him anyway. The rain season is nearly over now, but we have to figure something out before the next rain season. Any ideas? Diana |

| ![]() I feel for you Diana, your dog sounds like mine in storms and similar noisy situations. Nothing works for him, he runs around the house like it is being invaded and runs to every door trying to get the demons. I have not tried meds, but don't like that idea. Also it is hard to know when the noise will come in a storm etc. I know Cesar had such a dog and he had a van with equipment that could play all kinds of sounds and slowly increased the sound level over several days until the dog accepted the loud noises. But I can't see my doing this procedure! I too would be grateful for any techniques other than meds that might help. It is so distressing to watch my dog when he is so distraught and I cannot help him. As you say, the distress goes on long after the noise has passed. Poor babies.
