| Start hanging out as much as possible, at dog shows, behind the scenes with the people showing, breeders that are there showing their dogs....these are the people you want to "pick their brains" to get the most valuable information, but put on your Big Girl Panties, becuase it is /can be brutal and they can make you cry!! I remember my first litter that cost me a fortune in travel, breeding dogs, etc and I thought they were gorgeous....until I was shredded (correctly) by a show person!!).....Travel if you have to, in order to get exposed to valuable shows and breeders.....get educated on the type of Yorkie you find most attractive, with the best of everything you want in your puppies....that is information you will get from show people, with winning lines. All the time you are researching shows and pedigrees, save money because you want to be able to purchase Yorkies that best exemplify the breed, that have "that look"....you will be making friends and learning from breeders, and finally, you will have enough information to buy a breeding show winning female.....perhaps partial ownership in a show stopper....and you are then getting started! This can take years, so dont think this is "a couple of months adventure!" Good luck with this new adventure....be prepared to loose your inheritance on this adventure....breeding and showing dogs is NOT a financially lucrative adventure, and you will be doing well to break even! | I did just remember on your other post, you were not really up for any "rude" comments in response to your questions.....if you are going to get into breeding Yorkies, you are going to HOPEFULLY be associating with breeders/show people...get used to "rude" comments....while these breeders/ show people would not consider their remarks as "rude", you are going to have to loose that filter, take what knowledgeable people have to offer, digest and learn from it, and get over "rude" comments. You are going to run into some VERY busy people, that have MANY THOUSANDS of dollars invested in dogs, and if they take their valuable, priceless information/advice and share that with you, often as they are shedding blood, sweat, and tears getting their dogs ready to enter the ring, you take it graceously, with appreciation for any nugget of information you can gleen from these very busy people, and if necessary, go to the ladies room and cry! Not everyone you are going to run into is going to be all sugary sweet, patting and coddling you as they impart information that took THEM years to learn. Be appreciative, gracious (even in defeat!), go out back and cry, and then get on with it! Last edited by Yorkiemom1; 08-17-2015 at 11:55 AM. |

The first thing you will have to learn is that you have to (graciously) take the information they are willing to share with you, and not try to put YOUR limitations on what you are willing to accept or not accept! YOUR need the knowledge they have stored in their heads and hearts....dont try to tell them what you want filtered out! Last edited by Yorkiemom1; 08-17-2015 at 12:33 PM. | |
