I don't like that my husband eats pork, but I can't do anything about it unless I'm the one cooking/buying it. I have friends who don't eat cow over all the time and out of respect we don't serve it in their presence.

I 100% agree with you on this. Now you understand what I'm trying to say. I don't like the fact that Chinese eat dogs and the process in preparing the food is horrendous, but I can't do anything about it.

This is what will happen to the signed petition. It will get forward to the Chinese government. They will look at it and say, "Look at these arrogant Americans trying to tell us what to eat while they torture cows, pigs, and chickens. At least our dogs are natural, these Americans force feed these animals with hormones and genetically modify them. Who's cruel?" and then toss the petition in the trash.

It's an analogy, don't you see that? At no point did I say rape=eating an animal. And at no point did I ever say this was just about eating an animal. This about the horrific act of unnecessary torture and cruelty via boiling a living creature.

I don't eat dog, nor would I. I don't eat cows, pigs, or chickens either. That doesn't make me better than anyone, nor does it give me some pass to be more judgmental or less hypocritical when speaking out against horrific practices, in other cultures or our culture. It doesn't equate to "well I don't eat meat, period, so therefore I can realllllly speak out against meat practices whereas meat eaters should not speak out" -- no way is that logical in my book.

My husband eats meat, and I respect it -- but you can be sure he is against cruel torture toward any living being, period.

As far as your thoughts about a potential law someday: BRAVO. I'm right there with you and could not agree more!

You're both missing the point again. This isn't about eating a cow, a dog, a pig or whatever...it's about boiling creatures alive.

Let's all toss up our hands every single day and do nothing about everything then. Awesome solution.

We kill 3-4,000,000 pets every year in the US. Oh well, *shrugs*, let's do nothing about it. Let's stop all the rescues, all the spay/neuter programs, all the feral s/n programs etcetera. Let's do nothing....bc "look at these silly human beings telling us what we should be doing w/ our pets".

We all agree that the process of preparing meat is terrible and wrong. My point is, if you don't come up with a solution nothing will be done. Voicing your opinion and signing petitions is a waste of energy unless you can come up with a solution. For years Americans have been complaining about the way we prepare beef. Oprah tried to fight against the beef industry. They shut her up good. There's also a recent documentary on how the beef industry is destroying our ecosystem and polluting our land due to feces and blood from the slaughter house. Yet, no one has come up with a solution and the demand for beef keeps increasing so these beef manufacturers continues with their operation.

Problems like this have brought powerful people together and discuss population control which is the root cause of such issues and GMO foods.

I (reluctantly) agree with Colesmommy that it is within peoples rights to choose what they want to eat...While I find it absolutely disgusting that they eat dogs, that is their choice...my whole point here is how they kill them....skinned alive, burned alive, boiled alive...this is wrong and must be stopped...can i stop it today- No. But if enough people in the world react, then one day it will stop.

Your statement above is called apathy...and that is all that evil needs to survive.

Tphan - I prefer doing something over nothing, and always will. Every little thing we do toward the right direction is a step in that direction. And I end my discussion with you by leaving it w/ this quote, which is one of my faves:

I agree too that eating dogs is disgusting. Boiling live animals is wrong as well. Some people eat animals while they're alive (Japan Sushi/Frogs, Chinese quick fry fish while the head is alive, etc.) and I find that all disgusting. My point is, people should speak up about it if they can make a difference. If people sign petition and voice their opinions, then turn around and have a hamburger, that's counter productive and useless. Signing a petition for something that's not within the govern of U.S. laws will do no good. I'm not sure how we could stop the Chinese from such gruesome acts nor stop the beef industry in their practices. I haven't heard of any news about the government from both countries step in and do anything.

On the bright side, there are groups of animal activists that goes to this festival each year and purchase some of these dogs and rescue them.

I'm not disagreeing with you, in fact I agree with you. It's my opinion that signing a petition is doing nothing and won't stop this. Especially when it's something that's not within the U.S.

Actually quite a few countries are supporting this petition, and many places in China have already outlawed this practice, so I don't think the goal is as far off as you seem to think. Also, we are educating people about this and that's always in important step in getting people to change.
