| Lost ground on potty training:( Hi everyone, Well, Sunni was doing excellent with Potty training. She uses pads inside, but prefers going outside. We had gotten to the point that there were no accidents (that I could find). She had to be spayed early, and afterwards ended up getting a UTI, but even then she made a valiant effort to get to a pad, but missed more then she made it. To make matters worse, I'm watching my daughters English Bulldog who is 100% trained...so, its not his fault, and my Harry is 100% trained. Since the UTI then having Bear here, it seems like Sunni has forgotten all about the pads! She always goes outside, but after running around with Bear (quite a sight for sure) She will piddle where ever she is. I guess I need to go back to the very beginning basic potty training but, I cant tell you how difficult it is with Bear here. If I put her in the crate..he just paws and paws at it, getting her all hyped up, he starts moaning, she starts yapping. Its maddening. I tried putting her in her soft pen, but hes so big he just collapses it by laying on the outside!! I have been bringing her outside like I did when she was brand new...every hour or so..but they get going, running around the house chasing each other and she stops where she is and piddles, then starts playing again. Hes a sweet dog, but frankly he's too big for me to handle, lol. When Bear gets stubborn he just puts all of his weight into staying where he is and not budging! Only 5 more days!! I bought 10 Washable pads, lol..and they are now literally starting to look like throw rugs. They are everywhere, but at least Sunni doesn't chew them up. She does still use them sometimes..I'm sure its not the UTI, she finished all the medicine, and its normal pee. She never poops inside, thats something. On anorher note, Sunni is definitely the instigator getting Bear to play and run around..he's loving it, but me? not so much! lol |

YT 1000 Club Member | It is pretty normal to have set backs. With another dog there she is just too distracted. Teek left me a nice pile on the floor this morning right after being outside for 30 minutes that I think was him letting me know he isn't happy about the puppies being here. He then promptly came up on the couch to lay with me, something he would not do at all yesterday. I am just being patient with him and thinking he will adjust in a week or two. I didn't even say a word to him about him pooping on the floor. Usually I would look at him and go "really? We were just outside and you pooped on the floor?" Not even that this time. It will get better. I need to get some washable pee pads. Do they go on them as well as the disposable? I have a huge washable one that I keep in the bottom of Gatlin's crate but it is more just in case of an accident as he used to have them. I then cover it with a sheet and a comforter for his bedding, but I don't actually use it as a pee pad, just as an emergency way to absorb if he does have an accident, which he hasn't had in nearly a year. Good luck and hopefully things will get better when Bear goes home.

| Jade, I found out about the washable pads here. They are fantastic for us because Sunni was obssessed with chewing up the disposable ones..no sooner would I put a fresh one down, then I'd see her prancing around with it in her mouth. lol. She knows leave it so she will drop it in front of me..but back turned...at it again. She's a willful little one. The washables are extra large so I put a disposable on top of them...for some bizarre she leaves them alone then. With the nice weather I just take them outside and hose them off and let them dry (which is fast) and use them again. About once a week I'll wash and bleach them. She only uses them for pee..she does poop outside. I can tell you I do appreciate small pups after having Bear here all week...big dog, big poop, lol. |

| I don't think I've ever potty-trained a dog w/out one or two pretty significant set-backs or something that breaks up an excellent training record but the good thing is, the dog soon catches on again very quickly and begins to pick back up on previous lessons learned.
