| Introduction Hi. My name is Tammy. I am getting a yorkshire terrier mix puppy that has a yorkie as a mommy and a chihuahua as a daddy. It was not a planned breeding, but the mom and dad belong to my nephew, and somehow the dogs got together while my nephew and his girlfriend were at work. Our puppy right now is a week old, so there are still several weeks before he gets to come home. We are not paying for him, merely for his shots. My nephew lives very close to me, a half block away, so I will get to bond with the puppy while he is still with his mommy, and get to check in on him as he grows. I will get to see him for the first time tomorrow. Our hopes are to train him as a diabetic alert dog for both myself and my husband, to wake my husband when he stops breathing at night (which he does nightly), to wake us in the case of a fire or something (we both have several medical problems), and to help with our anxiety, depression, and my PTSD. I am disabled per the law, and meet the ADA requirements. My last service dog was a lab mix, but she got old and passed away, unfortunately. We trained her ourselves, with the help of some local trainers. This pup I will be training alone using Sue Ailsby's training levels program. I have never had a yorkie or yorkie mix, but I wanted to go with a small dog this time, since I don't need mobility assistance. I know that it is best to use the smallest dog that can do the job. I look forward to getting to know you all. |

| You are going to love your Yorkie!! I have no experience with therapy dogs, but I know there are plenty of people on here that do. I'm starting a puppy training classes next week. I went to one years ago, but I definitely need another one. I can say that I'm amazed at how quickly Sunni does pick up new commands. Some require lots and lots of repeats, but she does get them. I bet your new dog will be amazing! Good luck, and congratulations on one of the most lovable dogs you will ever have the joy or raising |

YT 1000 Club Member | Welcome to Yorkie Talk! I am sure your new baby will be adorable. My daughter is getting a Yorkie mix puppy very soon. Hers is 2 weeks old today and we get to meet her in a couple weeks. We have about a half a dozen pictures of her already that my friend has sent us so far. I hope the training goes well for the dog. I would absolutely love a therapy dog to be able to take to nursing homes and other fun places. Maybe my next Yorkie I will train for that. My current Yorkie might actually make a great therapy dog, but at 9 years old I would hate to ask them of him, I think starting with a younger dog would be better. Good luck with the training, I can't wait to see pictures of the new baby.
