Yorkie Yakker | ![]() I know this doesn't seem like much. But ever since I got Home last night with Oscar from my Mum's at around 10PM. Oscar's been barking all night, on and off! I don't know what to do! :/ I don't think I've even had a full hour, or two hours sleep, without him getting up and barking ![]() |

| ![]() Hello and welcome! ![]() I don't really know - is this a totally new behaviour? Did he get wound up and over-stimulated at your mum's? Have you been outside and had a good (safe!) look around, just in case? ![]() Goodness me, I hope he's stopped by now! ![]()

| ![]() Teddy started barking today at the click the central heating makes and cars outside, etc. He doesn't normally do this but I find he'll do it after the weekend and I've assumed its because the house has a 'different' sound when its just me and him compared to when it's hubby, teen and me. I think environmental sounds can trigger sensitivity to noises and, thus, barking. I would suggest correcting him with a firm NO every time he barks inappropriately. I'm sorry you haven't slept well because of it (I've been there!) but I think correction will fix the problem. |

| ![]() If my Cody barks I never correct him not to, I live alone in a heavily wooded area, at 12 lbs there could not be much he could do nor would I want him to if anyone were trying to break in. During the day time if he barks I let him lead me to what he is barking at. I have been woken up many a night and early morning by his barking, NO, I don't get up and check the house, I pet him, say it's ok, lay there and listen, if I hear nothing as I usually do lol, back to sleep I go. I realize not everyone can do this when you have neighbors living next door. I don't discourage barking, someday it may be a warning signal.

YT Addict | ![]() I think they spook easy. My yorky is doing this. When i take him out he is to busy checking everything out to go potty. He rts and watces intntly. If paper blows by he goes crazy. I think my pap is also an instigator. He barks just out of no where. We live in an apt so there are plenty of noises. Then princess growels and here we go again. I get them settled down and here we go again. Just about the time i doze. Because there are two its not easy to settle them down . Hope we dont get reported. |

Yorkie Yakker | ![]() Sorry it's taken me so long to do this! I've found that when it's just him and I, he barks more. I have put it down to him being nervous, maybe because I am a Girl, so he is more protective? He does bark when my Partner is with me, but nowhere near as much as when we are alone. Maybe the house does sound different when it is just the two of us. Thank you so much for all the advice. I've just learnt to roll with the punches ![]() |

| ![]() My emma doesn't like unexpected noises . There could be something outside that's spooked him and alerting it to you.

My Kimchi used to not bark at things, but started to doing it because her older sissies do it.

| ![]() I agree with others above that he is being protective and barking at things you may not even be able to hear, or things that you filter out as everyday noises. We run an air filter and our furnace/air conditioning fan continuously in our house to cover up noises from outside and things inside the house. It helps with our 2 Yorkies so that they don't bark at every little thing. Having enough exercise or entertainment during the day also helps prevent them barking at school buses and the UPS truck. Even little training sessions performing tricks for treats helps.

Yorkie Yakker | ![]() Rachael1983 - Yes, I think something outside may have spooked him too. LunarBerry - I did wonder if that's what it could be. I just presumed it was maybe because I was a Girl. My Partner stays in my Flat 4 times a Week, and the other 3 days, he is a tad naughtier, but more just barky than anything else. Ye, I never really thought about the pack mentality, but that makes a lot of sense. Maximo - He gets a lot of exercise, and I spend my Life on the floor playing. We do the tricks and treats everyday with him. But I'll see if tiring him out even more, changes anything. If not, does anyone have any advice on how I stop him barking? Love Alexa and Oscar ![]() |
