| Puppy breath? Hi guys...I have a quick question. I've looked some but can't really find the answer I'm looking for. Isabella is going on 9 weeks old, I've heard that puppies just have bad breath and they grow out of it, but I want to make sure we're giving her really good oral hygiene right off the bat. Is there something we should be doing? The vet said we could brush her teeth, but basically said "good luck with that" because, of course, puppies don't do well with sitting still. Izzy's breath is enough to knock you over sometimes (smells just like her dog food), so I'm just wanting to know if this is a stage she'll go through or if there's something we need to be doing. Thanks!

| What are you feeding her?? I bought some biscuit bones for Smudger (you made me get up had to get up and go in the kitchen to see what they were lol) they are BONIO minty fresh by purina. It says keeps breath minty fresh. Although what you're discribing sounds like BAD breath so don't know whether they would make any difference. Smudger never had bad breath I just got them anyway

| I use a toy that freshens breath. When are we suppose to start brushing their teeth?

| It's a mighty dog soft food that we mix with her hard food. It's what we got from the breeder, so we continued to feed it to her so we didn't upset her tummy. We're going to gradually try and switch her to another brand of food as the hard food the breeder gave us isn't easily found (according to our vet), but the supply we got from the breeder is supposed to last 3-5 months. So I'm taking it the bad puppy breath is just a myth? It's not like we'll pass out or anything from it, lol, it's just not a pleasant smell as that dog food isn't a pleasant smell...almost smells skunk-y. I'm mainly concerned though about making sure we're taking good care of her mouth and teeth.

Yorkie Lover Donating Member | Our girls get bad breathe at times, even though we brush their teeth, so we bought a breathe spray that you spray on ther gums and it kills the bateria. We got it at Petsmart and it works great!!! Our groomer told us about it, she uses on alot of the dogs that come in!!!

| Thanks for the tip about the spray!! I'll have to look into that. If it IS the dog food that's the main culprit, I know I'm probably asking in the wrong spot, but does anyone have any tips on changing her food gradually to another brand so we don't make her sick?
