| Cure for empty tummy barfing I started giving 1/4 of a antiacid pill after her last bout with pancreatitis two weeks ago. The vet gave me enough for four days but I had some from another time. I started giving Zoey 1/4 (tiny, tiny, tiny) of a tablet every night with her food and she hasn't barfed once. We actually stayed in bed to 7:45 this morning. we could not have stayed in bed this long without her throwing up. Hope I found the answer. Puke hair really stinks.

| Glad you found something that works! Run it by your vet to make sure the antacid that you are using is okay long term. When Teddy was a puppy and had this problem, I gave him a few kibble late at night and made sure he had breakfast early in the morning.

If the strict schedule feeding stop working in the future, I'll use pepcid.

| With Callie the Pepcid my vet recommended helped and feeding her a little bit before bed helped. I get the puke hair stinks because omg it really does and it's not like you want to bathe them when they don't feel good.

| Our vet advised about a teaspoon of food late at night. It does the trick! |

| Yes, a little snack before bed usually controls Bubba's stomach grumbles and Sissys bile barfs.

| Can someone explain a little about this? Teddy does this dry heave coughing/hacking in the morning but nothing comes up. The vet mentioned something about empty tummy but didn't really get into it. Should I be giving him a small late night meal?

| I agree, run it by your Vet to make sure the pill will be ok long term, although having a little snack will do wonders!!

Hmm is it like the reverse sneeze? Or more like a cough? Peanut does this too. Usually when they have the tummy upsets from empty tummy they can throw up bile. It definitely could be from empty tummy. Late night meal, never hurts!!

| I have been feeding Zoey at night for several years following vet's instructions. Doesn't work much of the time. I'll be checking with the vet re long term dosing.

Another possibility to consider for hacking/coughing/retching is acid reflux. There has been more talk of this on YT relatively recently. An antacid might be required in those cases. One other thought: my Teddy often suffers dry mouth when he sleeps. Sometimes he will sound like he is hacking up a furball when he wakes. I often wet his gums or make him drink from my hand late at night and early in the morning. This helps him.

It could be dry mouth or acid reflux too. Thanks for the ideas.

| I gave Teddy Bear light meal before bed time and he didn't hack this morning like he usually does. He did, however, get me up around 3:30 am to go out and do his business. Poor boy, I guess I should have been doing this all along. You live and learn.
