| New Member Hey, I'm new to the Yorkie world and Yorkie Talk. I have a 5.5 month old Yorkie puppy who is a very fussy eater. Every time we almost get to the end of a bag of dog food she is no longer interested in it. She will just stop eating. The she'll eat when she gets hungry theory doesn't work with her. When I got her she was eating Purina Smart Puppy and then I switched her gradually to Royal Canine which went great until she almost finished it and refused to eat anymore. So I tried another dog food. Same thing happened we got towards the end and she was no longer interested in it. She will eat the wet Royal Canine puppy food at least for now but I worry about her teeth. She won't chew on any of the dental bones all she wants to do is hide them. She does chew her toys a lot though. I bought a bag of Halo dog food because it has a flavor other then chicken. Is Halo a good brand to give her? I read some horror stories which I am sure can be found with any dog food on the internet. I just want to make sure I am doing everything okay. Thanks! |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Maybe you could rotate a couple bags of food at a time. Like, feed one flavor for a few days and then switch and then go back to the first flavor again...? As far as teeth, dry food does absolutely nothing to help teeth...it'd be like saying cereal helps human teeth bc it's "hard" food. So, if you did want to just feed canned and/or mix the canned w/ kibble...that'd be fine too. Have you tried moistening her kibble and/or have you tried sprinkling Parmesan cheese on it, which is very enticing due to smell?

| I have not tried cheese on top. She'd probably love that since she loves her freeze dried cheese treats. If the food is moistened she won't touch it either. If it's mixed in with canned food she'll pick it out and leave it beside her dish. I'll try the cheese thing though and see if that perks her interest. Thanks! |

| Sounds like we have the same yorkie. Dutch is such a picky eater and will stop eating too. I've tried all kinds of combinations to get her to eat. She will eat something for awhile and then stop eating it. I have yet to find something that she will eat consistently. I'm going through it now with Nature's Balance. I got her to eat it if I mix in boiled chicken but now that's now working any more. |

| Are you giving her treats on the side? Zoey sometimes get treats from my parents before her meal (mix of canned/kibbles) and she won't eat b/c she wants more treats instead. You can also try softening the kibbles with chicken broth. |

| I must be a lucky gal or just have the perfect little adopted boy. Cody will eat any kind of dry food, but, it has to be dry, not moist. I have friends and family, all complaints are the same, picky eaters. My past girls were like that, I went through many diff. dog foods until I found what they would eat. I was blessed when Cody entered my life. He is perfect, eats what he is given, when he has to potty he will bark or whine to let me know, no marking and no accidents in the house. What more can a person ask for. Sprinkling Parmesan cheese on the food sounds great to me.
