| Rabies titer issues Ok. I worked with animals, I understand the rabies vaccine is important and you need it to board your dog or groom your dog. My issue is that the rabies titer should be the same thing right? I mean it shows she has immunities and she clearly does not have rabies so what's the problem?! I have been working a lot and I'm fostering a dog and Molli has a cotton coat and I just didn't feel like grooming her myself this one time but she has a rabies titer and not proof of vaccination. So now I can't have her groomed anywhere? What's the point of the titer then? I am sorry but Molli almost died from the rabies vaccine, I will not be giving her it again but this whole rabies paranoia seems way blown up. Has any one else had these issues? Will I ever be able to take her any where?

| Have you checked with the groomer to assertain they absolutely will not accept a rabies titer in lieu of a rabies shot? Get your vet to give verification that your pup almost died from the rabies vaccine and she no longer receives the vaccine, but has her immunity against rabies (titer levels) checked annually. I know mobile groomers are more acceptable to grooming dogs with titer levels......if all else fails, groom yourself. |

| I use a mobile groomer who doesn't ask for any shot records.

| You also have to keep in mind titers are still controversial and are not always 100% right.

| I would groom her yourself or find a groomer that can come to your home. Good luck! It's crummy that the titer doesn't pass as a certificate.

| I realize the risk I take by not getting her the rabies vaccine but have weighed that against probable death and the titer won out. She is still able to be a therapy dog with just a titer and that's enough for me. I'll probably suck it up and do it myself this time since it's also the holidays and most places are probably booked but I might look into mobile grooming for the future.

You appear to have two choices: Give a vaccine that you KNOW your pup can not tolerate and could EASILY kill her the next time she gets it........or......groom your baby yourself. No brainer!! You have made the right choice! Waivers ARE also an option....your vet can substantiate that need....if your groomer or boarder refuses to take a valid titer result, and/or a waiver, change groomers/boarder facility, as there are up to date, current, knowledgable businesses that DO appreciate the accuracy of titers. Oh, by the way....you know all these vaccines are NOT 100% preventative.....a pet that has received a rabies shot can still get rabies.....chances are not overwhelming, but it exists. Get a mobile groomer or do it yourself!! | |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I'd either groom her yourself or, ask your vet for a letter explaining the value of the titer and why she cannot ever have rabies again. Like you, I would NOT risk my kiddo's health by getting any vaccine that almost killed her.

| You could find another groomer. My groomer has never asked for shot records. She runs a lovely salon in her home. The idea of having the vet write a letter is also a good one. If she has the immunities in her body she should not be subjected to another injection just to satisfy a groomer. |
