doggie bed destroyer

Does anyone else have a puppy that destroys doggie beds? After Lexi destroyed her first one, I tried another and she destroyed that one too. Now I just put blankets in her crate to sleep at night. During the day she usually naps on the couch anyway. With a new pup coming next month I was looking into a new doggie bed so I can use the crate for the new pup at least until he is sleeping through the night. Is this just a puppy thing that she will grow out of or should I try a new bed and try to teach her not to destroy it?

I would work on teaching her not to destroy it. I have a foster who will claw and claw at his bed. I remind him and he is good about stopping but he is 10 years old so I assume he has always done this. I am not sure how his life was prior to being found as they found him on the street with his pajamas embedded which had to be cut off him. He has ripped some outside lawn chair covers and gone through one bed thus far. So I would say best to nip it in the bud asap.

If she has a favorite bed maybe remove it every time she starts to try and destroy it then start again. she has to understand why you are taking it away so catching her in the act and removing with a firm no over and over until she understands what you are asking of her.

hopefully someone will chime in with better advice as I'm not super versed in the fix on this one.

Over the years I have had several yorkies that love to destroy beds and comforters. Some of them will outgrow it and some will not. I have found the best thing to use instead of a bed is a baby bath tub. I have picked up a lot of them at garage sales over the years for just a few dollars each so I have them throughout my house. Mine especially like them in the winter since our house is on blocks and the floors get cold. Most of the time I will just put a small comforter, sheet or a blanket in them, depending on what time of the year it is. They are easy to keep clean and the dogs love them.

that is an awesome idea! plus easy easy clean up if theres an accident. I am going to keep my eye out for yard sales now! thanks for the tip.

I have picked up several at the local Goodwill stores also.
