| Pet food store that doesn't allow pets :-/ The other day Lola and I went about half hour out of our way to go to the only petstore near me that has a wet food I wanted to try. I got there and the owner told me Lola couldn't come in. Dogs aren't allowed because so many people don't vaccinate their dogs and dogs were getting sick and *huge rant* etc. I asked if I could carry Lola, nope. Wouldn't most of the really dangerous germs be on my shoes and everything too? Assuming the floor is properly cleaned each day and after a dog has an accident I don't see much more of a risk. We left and the owner and the only customer continued ranting. Ok, it's her store she can do what she wants. My problem is it doesn't say anywhere on their website or facebook that dogs aren't allowed, I double checked. Had I known that I wouldn't have wasted my energy, time, and gas. I also didn't appreciate being ranted at or in front of. I don't know how this place stays in business, the store is very small and in an out of the way, hard to find, tiny shopping center. If I had a petstore my bigger issue would be male dogs marking merchandise. |

| Sounds wayyy to uptight for a person running a pet supply establishment. Sheesh. Sorry you wasted a trip.

| I keep one of my kwigy Bo bags in my car at all times, so that if I need to run in somewhere while I have ZoE with me, I can just pop her in the bag and no one is the wiser. But I wouldn't use it at that store as I wouldn't want to give them my money to support such a business. A pet store that doesn't allow dogs? Ridiculous!

I'm sorry you wasted your time making the trip. As you wrote, the store should make it very clear in their listings and social media that they do not welcome pets. Really strange though.

| That's one place I would never return to! I'm sorry you went out of your way for nothing though. Do you want to share the name of the place?

| Yes, please share, so I don't waste time and gas going there. If my dogs aren't welcome in a pet store, it's not a place I would shop for them.

They had a really expensive big wooden birdcage and a dog peed on it. It was so big they didn't really have a choice but to put it on the floor. They had to heavily discount the cage. The store is higher end and there's a petsmart right across the street, so you'd think they'd mostly attract more involved pet owners who would train their dogs and clean up after them, nope. The stuff I buy from them is high up, so it can't be peed on (wet food, treats, and sometimes other odds and ends). Quote:

| Thanks everyone, it's nice to know I'm not over reacting. Quote:
We frequent one of the small chains, even if it's just to stop in and say hi. The idea of your tiny pup near their huge cat is funny. | |

But truly I think pet stores should post signs saying something like, keep your dog on lead and under control, please don't allow your dogs to urinate in the store. If an accident does happen please let us know immediately.

| It has typically been the rule to keep pets out of most public establishments. In recent years chain stores like Pet Smart and PetCo have started allowing pets in their stores but that does not mean that all pet food stores allow pets in the store. I drive about 35 miles to a pet food store that sells better quality foods that you cannot find most other places. They do not allow pets in the store either. I usually spend no more than 20 minutes there as I call ahead to make sure what I need is in stock. I see no need to take Gracie with me. She is very comfortable at home and if I have other shopping to do I feel it is better for her to be safe and sound at home. She can't read the labels anyway. |

| I don't mind that they don't allow pets. My problem is they should have put it on the website and she shouldn't have ranted at or infront of me. Petsmart has allowed pets for at least 15 years, I remember taking my poodle when she was a puppy, and all the other pet stores around here allow dogs. There was no reason for me to think Lola wouldn't be allowed in this store. |
