| Haircut - 10 months old Hi - Charles is 10 months old now and he get's so tangled that i have to give him a haircut. I so wanted to keep his hair long but it's almost impossible - every time he goes out he comes back in tangled and wet - he lifts his leg now and if i don't clean him up every time he smells terrible Any suggestion - which cut will be the best ? |

| You could always have him given a sanitary shave of his private parts at the vet when he's in for another appointment. It's usually free or very inexpensive. For the main hair style, our Bella gets the "Joey" cut, which is short on the body, puppy cut on the face, and long hair on the legs. Most groomers would call it a modified Schnauzer cut. It's very low maintenance. |

| I had the same problem. I finally gave in last week and had Barney cut to a layered puppy cut. I am unable to load photos for some reason, but here is a board I have on pinterest for cute cuts. My groomer left Barney's overall length but layered his hair so that it doesn't tangle as easily. I gave him a bath last night and he was tangle free. I hadn't combed him since Tuesday of last week. This cut still gives him a fluffy puppy look. Here's a pic of his cut now and the same cut a year ago when he was a puppy. | Thank you Thank you - your Barney is such a cutie - i have gone thru all the cuts and decided on this one- it's really short but he so loves going outside in the garden that it would be best, i'd have loved to keep his coat long but it'll drive me crazy if i have to wipe him evertime he goes out. His at the doggy parlor today so i will post a pic of him when i pick him up tonight. Never knew about the sanitary shave- i will see how it goes now and if i don't like it we may have to grow it out and just do the sanitary shave next time. Thanks for replying |

| I love the cut you chose and I can't wait to see your pics. Thanks, Jeanie, this cut works well for his fine, straight hair.

| This is how I cut my boy. He is 11 months and I was having the same problems with knots and him peeing on himself. I kept his tail long at first, but I didn't like it, so I shaved it off. I gave him a bath and brush today, took me 1/3 the time and he didn't have pee pee stains! The pic of him with long coat is how he looked right before I trimmed him.

| my little pup is 9 weeks old. How old should he be before his first haircut? I have the issue with him peeing on himself as well. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | You can cut his hair anytime, as needed. The caveat is that you don't take him to a groomer to do it bc his shots are not completed yet. I don't take my 3 to a groomer at all, but that's what you need to worry about if you're considering a groomer at this age...too early at this point.

YT Addict | They usually have a puppy grooming special at six months. I groom my own dogs. My male Biewer has a narrow tracea so I don't send either one to the groomer. I only have them do nails and ears once every three weeks. I have seen too many pups have throat issues after being tethered at the groomer so I would rather do it myself. It gives you one on one time and it makes them feel pampered when mom does it |
