Help! My yorkie won't pee outside, but will poop outside. - YorkieTalk.com Forums

He will poop outside, but won't pee outside. He will hold it until he gets home, so he can go on his puppy pads. I got rid of the puppy pads, because of this. I noticed he won't go anywhere he smells another dogs pee or poop outside, and that's almost everywhere in my area. He won't poop in the grass either. He likes to poop on the sidewalk or on dirt where the grass is completely gone, and he doesn't smell another dogs poop or pee there. When I got rid of the puppy pads I bought a piddle place but he refused to use it, and would just go in secret places around the house. I switched to feline pine original non clumping cat litter. He will poop in the litter box, but won't pee in there. He just started to pee on his beds. I took them up to see if he would pee in the litter box, and I put him in his playpen overnight, and made the area small so he would have to pee in the litter box too. I woke up, and he pooped in the litter box as usual but peed on the floor in the playpen by his food, and away from his toys. I could go back to using the pads, because he doesn't have any accidents when I use the puppy pads, but I think the scent in them is making him hold his pee to go inside on the puppy pads and not outside. Weird!

Crystal in now 17 months old and we live in a 4th storey Penthouse with just the beach available locally for walks. She has never designated either # 1's or 2's to the great outside. We have good pads and laminate floors, so there's no problem for us in this arrangement. Her solid offerings are particularly punctual in frequency and easy to flush away. She is however choosy about the brand and size of pad, so being obliging we coalesce with her preferences.

It would take maybe ten minutes to reach the outer world via the lift etc. To then have to collect the produce in a plastic bag, bring it back indoors, de-bag and flush it away seems rather inefficient.

There's also a hyper active Dog Warden, who loves issuing $80 fines for Dogs being 'on the beach' from May to October.

Within the tenets of our position, (with age related physical drawbacks to boot) all participants in this arrangement seem to benefit. We use about three 60 x 40cm pads a day, not bad (no poo bags to buy) and she's worth it.

Hummm interesting. Maybe I just got a lil finicky yorkie on my hands. What puppy pads do you use? the ones I was using he loved, but the pee went through the pad. I was using essential training pads at http://petvalu.com/dog/house-trainin...ntials?lang=us It seems like most of them don't hold urine very well. Plus, I hate the smell of the pee.

My breeder recommended the bed pads for humans from Walmart. They are 23" x 36" and come 18 for $5.68. I like the size as Pepper is 8 months old and we are still working on house breaking. He is good and pees on the pad when I am consistent with taking him but still has accidents. Hasn't quite got the hang of pooping on the pad. Since the weather has warmed up I have added going outside. He is OK with it, but I wonder if I am ever going to get to the place where he asks to go out or goes to the pad on his own.

Then there is the problem with him eating his poop - but that is another post. LOL

Neither I or my visitors have noticed any urine smell. However we either change the pads pretty immediately after the deposit, or cover the pee spot with a 'soaker towel' (paper roll) which effectively contains the spill. We also have an air conditioned property.

Awww too cute. It took my baby a couple of months to get the hang of it. Just stay patient, because yorkies are a lil stubborn. Just tell Pepper bad... no! Do it with a firm and loud manner, and place Pepper on the pad, and say "go to the bathroom there." He or she will get it soon. My baby use to eat her poop often when I first got him. I heard that it has a lot to do with the poor quality of the food he was eating. My baby was eating purina. I started feeding him orejen, and he stopped eating his poop. Orejen is one of the best puppy food out there, so I guess the food he was eating was the problem. I wish you nothing but the best with your new baby, and good luck. I noticed puppy pads with the puppy scent that attracts them to it works better for puppies though.

I couldn't get your link to work, but I'll look into one with a fresh scent to it. I guess it all comes with trial, and error. I was using feline pine, but I'm allergic to feline pines litter. lol Oh well. I'm going to puppy pads. lol

Why don't you try placing a few used pee pads plus some fresh ones outside and see if he will use one set or the other? Be prepared to be patient - like waiting for an hour or longer more than a few times UNTIL he gets the idea that this is exactly what you want - him to pee - wherever he goes - on the pads or on the grass, when he immediately gets wonderful smiles and praise and a wonderful, luscious treat when he pees on the pad.

It's interesting to see the differences and similarities of these dogs. Our Ditto is six months old and has the puppy pad thing down pat. For a while I was troubled because I couldn't figure out how I was going to get him going outside. We have now advanced to the point that he will sometimes pee outside and when he does he always heists..He still will not poop outside. I may be wrong but I'm beginning to think the heisting he does outside has nothing to do with relieving his bladder and everything to do with marking his territory..He often will heist on everything outside and then immediately come in to his pads and pee (squat) and then poop...I'm about to decide that I can live with that even if he never changes...

I'll try that and see what happens. I tried it with a small piece one day. He smelled it, and just walked away as if I was tricking him to got to the bathroom somewhere he didn't want to go. lol. I'll test it out with a whole pad soon to see if it works. Wish me luck, because I have a little king that thinks going outside will cramp he's style. lol

Oh yeah. It's a territorial thing for your little one. I understand where you are coming from. I feel the same way. If he doesn't pee outside I will definitely live with it. Oh well, it's not like he's having accidents around the house. When he was much younger he would go outside, because he couldn't hold his bladder that long. Now he can, so he refuses to go until he gets home. lol
