Donating YT 3000 Club Member | Teeth Galen went to the vet for is annual.the vet noticed his top two 3rd premolars are loose. They need to be removed. They are not sure why this happen ... He loves to chew. He has flexi Nylabones. I don't think I give him anything too hard. . . But now I am second guessing everything.

| Poor Galen! From everything I have read here and elsewhere, genetics plays a greater role than environmental factors or attempts to keep teeth healthy. Generally, the smaller the dog/mouth, the more prone to teeth problems.

| Poor baby. If it makes you feel any better my teddy had 7 teeth extracted at 3.5 years old. They were nonvital teeth and they found this on the xray. But, the good news is that the fourth premolars are the chewing teeth so the thirds aren't as crucial. Does your vet do xrays during dentals? If not, I might go to someone who does so any other issues can be noted and addressed while Galen is young. I think flexi nylabones are fine, and wouldn't likely cause the loose teeth.

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | He has good genetics but he is so small.. And not letting me brush them doesn't help . . It was just so strange that it is the same tooth on each side. . . That is why I am thinking maybe it is something he chews on.

Donating YT 10K Club Member | Tooth loss runs in some lines and unfortunately there is little you can do to stop it from occurring

In terms of being the same tooth on both sides, could still be genetic. My brother was missing his adult "eye teeth" on both sides. I think I got them because I had extra teeth in the roof of my mouth, heehee. I'm a shark.
