Pain patch adhesive removal

PAIN PATCH ADHESIVE REMOVAL

Cody underwent surgery March 29. Instead of giving him pain meds, they used a pain patch on his hind quarters. They shaved an area appox. 6x6 inches, on the left & right hind quarters, the pain patch was 4x4 inches with adhesive on the back. When they removed the pain patch I could feel a very slight stickiness on the 4x4 area. His hair has started to grow back in the 6x6 area, however, the 4x4 area that held the adhesive backing pain patch has gotten darker, but I don’t feel any hair growing. My concern is, his hair is growing UNDER the adhesive, but the adhesive is not allowing the hair to come through the adhesive kinda like smothering the new hair that‘s trying to grow. The adhesive needs to be removed. Does anyone know what kind of cream I can use to remove this adhesive to allow his hair to grow, I fear since the hair cannot pass through the adhesive it will grow back into his skin. A cream that is safe in case he licks that area. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Try using olive oil, use a rag and rub in a circle, keep adding more olive oil until area is clean.

Doesn't peanut butter remove some sticky things too? Also, try rubbing alcohol.

Olive oil or coconut oil work well, let it sit for a couple of minutes first to start loosening the adhesive. You may need to work in through the hair with your fingers and nails to get completely out. Safe to lick and good for the skin.

Thank you Ann, the more tips the better, if one don't work I have others to fall back on. Thing is, patch was removed 3 weeks ago, I didn't realize the adhesive would not just wear off.

The surgeons I use recommend Goo Gone. Unisolve is another remover.

Hair!!!! lol there is no hair, I believe the hair has grown under the adhesive , I don't have the coconut oil, do have olive oil. Today I will try the olive oil, if I need to, tomorrow I will get the coconut. Excuse me if I sound duhhhh, but in all the years I have had yorkies, poodles, schnauzers, never was there a "pain patch" nothing ever glued to my pups skin, this is all new to me, so my stupid question is "coconut oil, would I get this in a health food store" I use coconut oil body lotion, but will not put this on the prince, because he may lick it. Thank for you suggestion.

No clue .. I have never had to use it. They send packets home with their surgical patients, but I have always found a way to get it off without it being a problem. I am sure if you google, you can find a website for them.
I am surprised it stuck like that...and for three weeks? I would think bathing would have removed it. I would probably call the vet and ask about it.

Goo gone and unison e are fantasticly quick, but I would be worried about not getting it off completely and then the dog licking the area. They are fairly toxic solutions.

LOL, sorry. I meant the new hair growing under the adhesive. You may almost have to scrape it (the softened adhesive) off with your fingernails. You can buy coconut oil in the natural section of your grocery store or any health food store. It's used mainly
for cooking. It's a solid at room temp and then quickly liquifies. It smells delicious! Bonus with the count oil, it's awesome to use in between shampoos to soften the dog's hair and work out mats.

They say just a small amount....I don't know about boxicity but do trust my surgeon. I need to ask them about it because it is always mentioned after surgery.

Goo Gone can be obtained from a hardware store or maybe wal mart. You are correct in using only a small amount and then rinsing well.

If using Goo Gone, I would wash that off with Dawn dish detergent afterward and rinse well, and don't let the Goo Gone sit on the skin very long.


When using peanut butter, it may need to be left on for 15-30 minutes to break down the adhesives, and in my experience, only Jif brand works.
