| Please Help-liver shunt baby needs help with diet!!! Brandi was diagnosed with liver shunts about a year ago. She is doing fine but recently she has begin to hate her diet. She was placed on presciption hill diet l/d which she ate for almost a year but begrudginly. Now she abosuletuly hates it. I switched her to royal canin hepatic but that didnt agree with her tummy. She hated that too. She has no problem eating anything else. she will eat almost everything else except what is good for her She is beginning to lost weight not because she is sick but because she hates prescrption hill l/d. Is there anything else besides l/d and royal canin that she can eat? She went from 4lbs to 3lbs in less than a month Please help!!!! She needs something with low protein. I have asked several vets but they all seem to prescribe the same type of diet. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks |

| Canned or dry? If she's on canned, switch to dry but feed it moistened with water, and/or mix in cottage cheese or veggies, noodles, egg whites, or chicken to make it interesting. Eating bad stuff occasionally is better than her not eating. One formula is chicken based, the other is pork based. Gerber's Chicken Baby food, Stage 2 is good also. They also need a higher fat content to make the liver happy. Is her shunt inoperable, or does she have multiple shunts?

| The shunt is inoperable. She is 13 yrs old and doesn't have any teeth, so I been feeding her canned. Can she eat dry food if I add water? Since she lost all of her teeth I've been only feeding her canned. |

| Hot/boiling water added to dry food and left to sit till warm will turn the kibble to mush. You can also put the dry in a blender to decrease the kibble size or pulverize it to a powder.... see what consistency she prefers.
