| 1st time Momma Dear Friends, This is my first time to post on a forum, I am glad to be here and would love to hear your opinions. I live in Lima, Peru and brought my yorkie Zara from the States 2 years ago. My Baby girl is expecting for the first time and a sonogram shows that she is due to deliver 3 pups here in a few days, we are at day 57 of pregnancy. Her vet here is a really great guy, but I sometimes tend to think that he might be looking for the extra $$$ (very common here in Peru). He thinks it is necessary to do a C-section maybe even as soon as tonight. (Zara is at the vet now waiting on a 2nd sonogram) Needless to say I am a bit nervous about her doing OK through the whelping process. Any thoughts? |

| Tooooooo early to be taking babies....you will be fighting to save preemies!!! Was she bred to a Yorkie? You need an xray at this stage, not an ultrasound! Get an xray and the MEASURE with calipers, directlyon the film, the width of the babies HEADS....then measure the pelvic ring and see if the heads will pass through herbirth canal. What is the vets reason for wanting to take thosebabies this ealy???? (Weights are really not that iportant...it is the pedigreebehind the breeding pair....) | I'm sure some experienced breeders will be on to answer your questions. Unfortunately I have no experience. But, just as a dog owner, a few things I would want to know is exactly why the vet is recommending this. Are the pups too big for her to whelp? Are you sure of your dates? It seems unusual for a vet to want to do a C-section almost a week early. Has an xray been done? When was the first sonogram and why a second? If in doubt, why don't you take you pup to another vet for a second opinion? Good luck, and keep us posted with updates.

| This thread was also made in the breeders section. How much did Zara weigh before being bred? Day 57 sounds too early for me. Is momma having some health issues due to her pregnancy? Can you tell us the exact days she was bred and on what day of her heat cycle she was on when she was bred? If the vet takes the pups to early then they will not make it. I hope the OP comes back with an update.
