| Please help I can not get my dog to eat anything. When she arrived from the breeder I was told she started her on Royal Canine and a alittle Cesar mixed with it. NOPE she hated the hard food only eat the soft. I tried a ton more brands of hard food to give her for teeth however she only wanted the soft. During our last month in the US we spent time at both parents house she quit eating the Cesar food So I stared a bunch of other soft foods and she wouldn't eat it. Went back to the Cesar and had to hand feed it to her. When we were at my mother in laws she started eating her dogs hard food Purina puppy chow. I ran right out and bought this. Lasted 2 days. When we flew to Germany she did have a few bites of people food and when we were living in a hotel for 2 months she also had some bites. She then stopped the Cesar food again (US brand) why I was out I found in a German store Cesar soft food same maker many more flavors then the 6 I can get here on base she eat them for about 2 days and stopped wouldn't even go near the bowl after that. I have since tried a ton more dog food US and German and nothing. I had to take her to the doctor last week for a UTI so I asked why I was there. He said to put her hard food down and leave it she will eat when she hungry. I informed him I have done that and she wont eat all day some times 2 then I break and give her some people food. He said give her 7-10 days and she will eat. WHAT! I cant do that. My husbands saying the same thing she will eat when shes hungry but she will wake me up at night and take me to the kitchen and look at me. This dog hates food I don't know what to do. I had a lab for 13 years and last her the week before Bailey came to join the family. She is such a diff dog. I love my dogs like babies Im going nuts here I don't know what to do. I feel like if I wait her out she will starve. |

| How old is she? I would not play with that theory about leaving food if she is a puppy. If she is an adult, usually they will eat. I have had them hold out for as much as 3 days. Just be vigilant if you do that...make sure she is not dehydrating or becoming hypoglycemic.

| 7-10 days? That seems little irresponsible thing to say... Instead of puppy/dog food, have you tried boiled chicken? Or perhaps soaking the kibbles in chicken broth (no salt added) so it'll get soft. There are other members here who had to hand feed their furbutts for a while b/c they wouldn't eat on their own. You might have to do that till she starts eating by herself. My Zoey won't eat unless I'm in sight or at the very least, she knows I'm in the same room. She'll be 3 this November. |

| She is almost 10 months old. I will try and soak the food in broth and see if that works. I have tried to mix people food/gravy with the hard food she will eat the food out and leave the kibble. Thanks for the info on Cesar food I had no idea that's what the breeder told me to give her. |

| I edo not know how old your puppy is, but you can NOT go by the theory that when she gets hungry enough, she will eat.....you can easily end up with a baby suffering from hypoglycemia. Food and feeding causes such frustration....and you have tried to get your baby to eat by switching everything all around and this really, while good intentioned, only creates confusion in a puppys mind...and they end up not eating anything....which is right where you are! This is when you go to people food for support....boiled chicken chopped into tiny pieces, and HAND FED to your baby! You can also try Royal Canin canned puppy food....not the mousse starter, but the puppy food. Royal Canin is usually pretty tasty to dogs...you can even sprinkle the finely chopped boiled chicken on top of the mashed up puppy food. Resort to hand feeding....If I were you, I would get ONE food and stick with it, and stop offering a buffet of food to the baby! Royal Canin is readidly available in Europe and is scientifically balanced, nutritionally complete for your baby......if you have to feed it off your finger, so be it! Good luck with your stubborn little baby who clearly has YOU jumping through hoops to keep her from "starving"! |

| When Gracie was a puppy she refused to eat commercial dog food as well. I have had dogs all my life and never had a pup refuse to eat so I was unprepared to deal with the issue. I actually found YT looking for dog food recipes because I started cooking for her. She loved it when I made her food from human ingredients though I have to say she was not good at eating left overs! There is a section in the Yorkie health and diet area here in YT that contains a "sticky" with tons of recipes for homemade dog food and treats. If you do decide to make her food for a while then do some research and study on the subject. At least with home prepared foods you know that the ingredients are fist rate and fresh. I'd avoid foods like Cesars. They use some really bad stuff. Check the ingredient list. I only feed grain free and I use fresh meat and vegetables along with some food based supplements. After feeding Gracie homemade meals for a while I switched her to a commercial raw diet which she loves. I do still make some home meals for her just to add some variety. She has done very well with it and is now 3 years old. Never a sick day in her life. Is your pup growing? Does the pup play and have a normal energy level? Any issues with diarrhea? Any questions in those areas should prompt you to get her to a vet that can do a very good examination and do tests of the liver and other digestive functions. Yorkies can be picky eaters but liver issues have been found to be prevalent in the breed so don't mess around with possible dangerous symptoms. Lack of appetite can be an indication of serious issues. |

| Have you tried feeding her a better premium brand of canned food? Nothing from mass grocery or discount stores. Be careful w/any broth from the market, some contain onions which is toxic to dogs. Many YT members make their own, home made broth. I would have her bile acids tested (BATs). Her having a UTI, not eating, no appetite can be a sign of liver disease.

| I think it's better not to give her any "human food" other than certain fruites, veggies, boiled chicken breast, etc... Also, does she enjoy playing? Perhaps you can make a game out of it? Or try out one of those treat/kibble dispenser toy? I think there were some people who did well with that. |

| Jess went through the same thing at around a little over a year old. I think its a phase. I went nuts giving her different things an then one day poof all the weirdness was gone. she now eats ANYTHING I put in front of her. I think dogs are very scent driven so try the chicken broth even if you have to soak and warm the kibble in it |

| Just a thought. Has she had her teeth checked lately? If she is older she could have one that bothers her when she chews.
