| the cyst on her rectum My 12 year old yorkie, mia, has a large lump on her rectum surrounding it. It is the size of a small lemon. She can still go outside and do her business, but It seems to be getting bigger. Any ideas of what this is and will it eventually kill her or keep her from going to the bathroom? One vet I went to didnt know and said I should go to a specialist.......huh? Wierd, so do any of you have words of wisdom? |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Personally, I would have her at the specialist. That is a pretty large cyst you described. Im sure that more vetted yorkie owners will be along with more experience and advice throughout the day. I will keep your baby in my prayers that it is nothing serious.

| Definitely needs to be seen by a vet ASAP. Could be any one of a number of things. Good Luck

| Is it just the one lump i.e. none anywhere else? Agree with everyone else's advice re seeing the vet as quickly as possible. No doubt you're already thinking the worst and while this is obviously a possibility, it could be something less sinister. Your vet will probably want to do a biopsy on the lump to see what it might be. |

| It could be a perineal hernia and YES, that could cause major problems. Whatever it is, it needs to be addressed. IF she needs surgery, I strongly recommend that you only use a board certified surgeon...it is a VERY tricky surgery as there are a lot of nerves in that area. A botch job can cause major problems including incontinence.

| This little one needs to go to the vet ASAP. As has been said there are multiple things that maybe causing this: 1) impacted anal glands 2)rectal abscess 3)prolapse 4)or tumor growth-either beign or cancerous This week end my mother told me her dog has a lump under her tail. Since my mother is not able to drive any longer I told her to make an appointment for today, which is my day off. Long story short they kept her dog and will being doing surgery in the morning to remove a tumor and send it to the lab for evaluation. I hope you can get her to the vet ASAP as they are totally depended on us to take care of them.
