Rosie's Front Paws

Rosie is "chewing" on her front paws and sneezing. I'm assuming seasonal allergies? Does Benedryl help with seasonal allergies in our pups? I know she had to have a shot before for allergies. However, my mom was telling me that the shots were not good to get. Any input? The chewing is driving us both crazy!

they say benedryl is ok to give...i posted on a link here somewhere the ok human meds to give...i would just call ur vet and check on dosage amount. sorry i hope rosie is feeling betta soon ........

Wash her feet off with water when she comes in from outside. That might help.

Poor Rosie. Benadryl will probably work. Washing her feet after coming inside is a good idea. You might try hydra cortisone spray. I am using it on Mrs. Beasley now because of the flee bite. It stops the itch on contact. (I spray the area and then gently rub it in)

You can also use the cortisone cream- I have bought some at Walgreens and used it on Peanut- Works really good. Also you can ask your vet for an RX for the Benedryl . I have noticed the Vet's Rx is stronger and will last longer than the OTC stuff!!

Poor Rosie girl.

My boys have been licking their feet a lot after being out in the wet grass, or freshly mowed grass. We have had days where they sneezed a few times, and seemed slightly congested. With them, I know it is the weather, extreme heat and humidity, lots of rain.

Rinsing feet off helps, but I know this is more challenging for doggies who are outdoor trained and go outside more often.

I hope Rosie can get some relief soon.

Hmm...is there any redness or slight swelling near the base of the nails? Are her nails flaky looking, brittle or changing in color? Those are all symptoms of a fungal nailbed infection & the sneezing might be allergies (could be 2 different things). Doggies can get fungal infections in their nails just like humans can, particularly if their paws are frequently moist & open to the elements. It's also a common result when there is damage to a quick & bacteria has time to take up residency.

also (and I know this will sound gross) but sniff her paws and see if you detect any "stinky zit" or "bellybutton" odors (another infection sign).

If she is on any other medicines make sure you ask your vet about reactions first.

Princess has this problem, sometimes she breaks out in a rash on her wee wee area too. She's had numerous skin cytologies done & it always comes back as some sort of bacteria they can get from grass. Vet told me it happens bc she squats to pee & touches grass, so to wash her every time we come back from being outside. I rinse her bottom & wash their paws every time after their walks & it cleared up. All that pollen is also horrible right now here, their eyes are weepy & eye boogers galore! Even Gerber water, which worked wonders is not working anymore.
