| Shes a bona fide swimmer now Years ago my we had a 3 ft pool in our back yard and I put chachi and jewels to let them try to swimbut they reallly didnt like it so I never pushed swimming on them. We ended up getting rid of the pool and putting in a pond and a stream. When it gets hot Jewels will go sit in the stream and get wet and cool down. However never have Jewels or chachi jumped in the pond or really even got around the pond. Today we had the stream off so there was no water in it so Jewels jumped in the pond to cool off. It was funny seeing her swim around with the koi following her. Now Im gonna have to really watch her around that pond Im really proud she will swim now though

| Lol, that's adorable!!! My grandma has a pond in her backyard and they have bigger dogs so it's blocked off from them but Jax just goes right under the wire they set up and he's gotten in a few times lol. Her husband gets so mad. We just laugh.

| Aawww thats too funny!!! Its amazing to everyone how well these little ones swim! Mine will go in the pool all day long if Im in. They jump off the sides into the water. They boogieboard and then jump in, they go down the stairs into the pool. I put life jackets on them after awhile because I'm afraid they will get too tired!

| That would be fun! If we are just floating around the pool, they float around on their boogie board. But if the kids are all jumping in the pool, splashing, playing, they will jump in off the side and swim to them! LOL They both know where the stairs are and can get themselves out of the pool on their own. If they want to come to someone that person just has to say "No, stairs" and they will change direction and go to the stairs. LOL

| would love to see a video of the koi following Jewels that sound so cute. Lola is getting too comfortable in the water, it's hard to keep her out of the lake or pools and it worries me a bit. I was on a vacation in Charleston with my SIL and Lola and we were standing in the courtyard of a mansion with a big fountain and pond. My SIL had Lola on her leash and in the blink of an eye Lola jumped in the pond, it was kind of yucky with allege and plants all over the top, but it was funnier than heck, we were trying to pull her out an she was trying to swim. It was hot so she was happy to walk around nice and cool.

Yeah my boys too, they walk through every puddle. We went hiking on a hot day and at the end of the hike was a stream and they were both just walking in it, standing it, drinking, walking. I didn't have the heart to kick them out or not let them go in it because they were hot. What a mess though to put back in the car! LOL

We are lucky and live on a lake so there are areas on our walk where Lola can go for a quick swim, by the time we get home she is almost dry. She always walks faster after the swim. Just pack a few towels before your next walk Dog are funny because Lola is so confused when the weather turns cold and I will not let her stop an swim during the walk, she keeps pulling me to the area she usually goes in at no matter if it is ice or freezing cold.

| We have a pool in the backyard and Lexi hasn't been in yet because she had stitches from her spay. She always walks so close to it, but has never attempted to jump in. Well, two days ago I was putting the rope float deep end divider on and I was getting in the pool. She always follows me step for step and I heard a splash. I turned around and she was swimming! I scooped her out immediately. She was so pleased with herself, I think, mostly because she was cool. She ran several laps around the pool at full speed like crazy. She got her stitches out yesterday and the vet said she could get in but I'm waiting a few more days. She wasn't afraid at all so I know I'll have to continue to watch her closely when she's out there. This weekend she's getting a life jacket and she's going to have a ball! She is the funniest little thing.

When you have an in ground pool and a dog that likes the water them going in on their own is a concern. I have to be careful around my sisters pool, she has a fenced in yard so the dogs go out to potty and if I am not right there Lola is likely to jump in the pool, my sister's dog however will not go near it. I love having a dog that likes the water but on the other hand it is also a concern. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Yes I agree with Donna. WE don't have a pool in our backyard, but er um we trained our dogs well, as we usually structure our walks to have a mid-walk swim. So they are always looking to the water. And of course they can smell water from miles away. So the start of the walk, while not anxious they are eager to go; the closer we get, the more our big boy whines, whines like a baby for the water. Magic won't even have lunch when we get to the water, he must fetch and retrieve, and now Razzle is getting as bad. So that ratchets up our rest time. The humans are hungry the dogs need to eat, so we let them cool off for 5minutes or so, then we feed water doggies. Let them rest a bit, and give them then a good swim time. And it is back hike home again. Sometimes depending on where we are, they get another swim before dinner, then I make dinner, and groom after dinner.
