| Vaccinations Miley is going to get her 16 week shots on Thursday. I wanted to know what vaccines are COMPLETELY necessary for her to have and which ones are NOT. I know vets push all kinds of vaccines down your throat and I just want to get what she NEEDS not what they THINK she needs.

| Okay so whats considered the 16 week "puppy shots" that she's SUPPOSED to be getting so that I can take her on walks and stuff at 18 weeks? I would hate to see anything happen to her because the vet got vaccine happy. I know NO RABIES shot yet not until shes older

| I'm not sure. I've never heard of it until coming here. Is this something I can google to find out if it's in my area?

| More then likely. The only reason I know its is where I live is because my mom had a goat die from it. If it is not in your area though I would not get it because some small dogs can have reactions to it. Did she do ok with her other puppy shots?

| Yeah Georgia said she was fine with her shots! I got Miley at 13 weeks so she had all of her shots and I just have to do this round. Is lepto part of the puppy shots? or is that an extra one that needs to wait until her next visit?

| It was in Callie's puppy shots but some leave it out and some put it in.

| At 16 weeks, we did rabies. I think we finished puppy shots around the same time. We do rabies, and DHPP (no lepto). The shots can be separated but honestly dogs are more likely to react to the BOOSTER shot not puppy shots. I would definitely hang out at the vet for a good half hour after the DHPP shot to make sure the pup doesn't react. Rabies, I just leave because it's pretty infrequent that dogs react to rabies. As for lepto, I would definitely stay at the office for this one as well if you do it. I would not do lepto at the same time as DHPP. These are my personal views, and you should discuss your concerns w/ your veterinarian who should be more than delighted to explain things to you.

YT 500 Club Member | I asked my vet about that too. He said with these babies he didn't give the lepto vaccine. We spaced Sphie's shots out as much as possible and she didn't get the rabies shot till she was 6 mo.

| Okay! and it's also so hard because my vet is not in the same city as me. My vet is 30 minutes away so would asking him about lepto be relevant to my area as well?

| DHPP is distemper, hepatitis 2, parvovirus and parainfluenza. It is a combo vaccine. Yes, this is a core vaccine and important that your puppy have it.

| ohh okay! so that's what's considered the "puppy shot". If we decide to do lepto (which i'm leaning towards no right now) is it okay to take with DHPP or no?
