| Help!!! My heart is breaking... Ok guys so basically I have a 6 month old yorkie whose extremely hyper. He loves to play and run, he jumps on and off the couch he's an energy ball. I love him but I can't help but feel like he's more focused on playing with the other dogs than being with me. I have 3 other dogs and I felt like I bonded with them more.. Is this because he's still a puppy, is he going to become calmer as he matures? If so at what age did you notice the change.... Thanks in advance this is breaking my heart, I feel like Im missing the puppy stage... |

| Yorkies are this way they are very energetic little things. It took Laddy over a year to calm a little but I wouldnt have it any other way. His energy at 4 is still on the puppy level so I feel I constantly have a puppy in the house .

| I hope this changes in the future. I have 4. two purchased and two rescues. All have bonded with me or my dh in one way or another. By bonding do you mean cuddling? If so then your puppy is going to outgrow a lot of that hyperactivity and learn that cuddles are wonderful! Especially when you find his sweet spot. (Inside the ear, belly, chest etc.) Right now he is learning how to be a dog and trying out for different spots in the pack. Even if you don't bond as tightly with him as you do with the others don't feel bad. I imagine everyone with multiples on this site will tell you they have bonded more or less with one dog than others. My Gracie will have nothing to do with me when her daddy is around. He is the apple of her eye and she could care no less about me than she does a wall. Needless to say I am not as bonded to her as the others and it doesn't bother me. It doesn't mean I don't love her or worry about her when she is ill. I appreciate her good points and funny characteristics. Each one of mine is different and I love them for different reasons. I bet they all have different reasons for loving me back. LOL |

| I don't think some Yorkies become true people-lovers until they are older and more settled down. Right now he's just enjoying being a baby and having a good time. I'd give him until he's over a year to come into his true Yorkie nature. And that nature is one that is usually so intensely a one-on-one, loving and personal a relationship that it is a huge selling point for the breed at large these days. Everybody wants their own little personal fanclub and your Yorkie, once he grows up into his true self, will likely be all that you want in a lapdog who thinks you are the star of his life.

| Sam is 7 months, and he can be a whirling little tornado of destructive energy at times. I've found that interactive play with him has done wonders for both of us. You just have to find what will keep his attention on YOU, because unfortunately, puppies at this age have the same attention span as a toddler - somewhere between zero and none, lol. You may need to isolate the other dogs from your pup for a bit while you have one on one play time with him. Fetch, hide and seek, tug of war, and trick training with treats force him to pay attention to you because you have a 'reward', whether it be a treat, a thrown ball, or praise and a belly rub. After you've got him worn out from play and praise, quiet time letting him snuggle against you for a nap will further the bond.

| Ih Lord! There were days when I thought Adie would drive me and the other dogs crazy with her antics. She is now my constant companion and love bug. (unless she is mad at me) |

| He is in Life is a party stage. Pixie is a ball of energy and loves running, jumping, and playing. She likes to cuddle on her time lol she would much rather get the party started. Some yorkies are more laid back but most are a ball of energy and love a good party! you could find other ways to bond with him, like take him for walks by yourself and no one else. Take him to parks and play ball. One on one time will encourage the bonding.

| Start taking him for long walks a couple times a day. Just you and him without the others. Stop in the shade once in awhile, give him water and talk to him. He needs to release some of that energy and also to spend quality time with just you. My youngest and I just could NOT bond at all due to the other three to distract her attention. I finally started letting her sleep with us. We don't sleep with the other girls for various reasons. I play quietly with her when we go to bed and put her "stash" in bed. She has her ugly baby, marrow bone and a Himalayan chew. Then at the end of our bed we have a large chest. I cover it with an oil cloth then put her pee pad, water and a bowl of Honey-Nut Cheerios. She's too small to jump off the bed, and then she wouldn't be able to get back on if she did, so this all works perfectly for her. We have bonded so tight that she follows me everywhere I go, even when I take all four outside, she keeps her eye on me and will come running if she sees I'm heading back to the door. I don't even have to call her, but I do have to call the others. But the others are also bonded with me, but they don't watch me quite so close.

| Thank you guys!!! I read through all the comments and they really touched me!! I love my dog, he's the prettiest dog I have ever owned and he's a sweet heart. I may just obsess over my dogs, I just want them all to feel bonded to me and things are so different from when you have one to when you have a few... I hope that around 1 year he starts becoming calm and loving... Thank you!! |

| I so agree with the walking etc.. they have a lot of energy to burn off. My dd has a 7 month old and she get "sad" because he rather be with my dh because he will play with him. She wants to cuddle... but I think she is now seeing how important the exercise and such is. I am going to pm... maybe we could meet at a park and have a play date ???
