| Newbie Introduction Hi! I'm new to the board and wanted to introduce myself. My name is Jamie and I'm a proud new owner of a beautiful yorkie baby girl. She was born December 23rd. I still have to wait 12 weeks before I can bring her home. I'm so excited I can hardly see straight!! On the first day my baby comes home, is it okay to start crate training ASAP? I don’t want to traumatize her; however I would like to start her on a consistent ritual right away. Also, how would you introduce your cat to your puppy? My kitty Jasper has been our only pet for the past 2 years. I don’t want to make him feel unwanted or replaced. I’m very excited to be apart of this board. I thank you for any advise you can give. - Jamie |

Donating YT 14K Club Member | Jaime, welcome to YT! Sorry, but I'm terrible in the training area...my babies first nights home, they slept with me and have every since! I know you're very excited about your new furbaby and I'm excited for you! Can't wait till you get to bring her home and post pictures!

| Welcome to YT! We also have a cat but with other dogs around she thinks she is a dog! Everytime she is introduced to a new pet she walkes up to them..sniffs..and swats them with her paw (claws in!). It is just her way. She observes the pup for the first few days..always from above them either on the couch or the computer desk. Eventually I think she realizes they are NOT going away and from then on are best buddies! She even rolls on the floor with them. I was worried she would get too rough, but she, like many adult animals, seems to know she is playing with pups and is real gentle. At night she crawls into the pups bed and sleeps with them...like a Mother. She is a special girl. Take it easy and let your cat decide on when it will accept the new puppy...over the weeks, shower love on your kitty but encourage play with the new pup...they will be buddies..it may just take some time. (Remember to always supervise the interaction between the Cat and pup until they are used to each other...accidents CAN occur...so never leave them alone together until you are sure they are friends!)

| Welcome to Yorkie Talk. This is where I came with a million questions when I first got my two yorkies. I would start off by crate training. If you do it for short periods (say 10-15 minutes during the day) it won't be as hard at night. Don't forget that their little bladders can't hold that much and will have to be let out a few times during the night. I'm sure others will give you their opinions too. Make sure the crate is not too big. I got the smalles one they had and still had to put boxes in them to make them smaller. They don't want to potty where they sleep. I'm so happy and excited for you. Please keep us updated on your precious little puppy. |

| Hi Jamie, Welcome to YT. You will get a wealth of information from this board. Is Micha your baby's name. If so, that is so pretty. Yes, I would start getting her use to the crate right away. Put her in it at 5 minute intervales while you are there with her and when she gets use to it let her stay in longer at a time. She will begin to feel very comfortable in the crate. My baby goes in it and just sits when he feels like it all the time. It becomes a safe den for them.

| Hey Jamie, Welcome to YT. I know how excited you must be, and the wait is sooooo freakin painful!! i just got my baby a 1.5 weeks ago. the wait was excruciating!! i dont really crate my puppy, but i was very lucky because he was already started on paper training by his breeder, so he has been a breeze to train on pee pads. Are you training him outdoors or indoors? As for the crate, just leave in open even when hes not being crated and put a few toys in it and something that smells like you [i put my pillowcase in his] so that he want to go in it and knows its his "den." the worst part about the crating is the little wimpers. try an be strong, i was not...and he sometimes expects that he has a spot on the bed next to me. i bought him a bed/pillow thingy that he is absolutely in love with and has abandoned me for the pillow at night now. GOOD LUCK!! and im so anxious along with you for when he comes home. they are sooo fun when they are puppies. i dont know how much research you've done, but def take a look at the different parasites and other health problems that can arise with yorkie babies in the mean time [coccidia, hypoglycemia, both LP's] its so important to know what to look for incase anything goes wrong. i am NOT trying to scare you- just be aware. there is sooooo much info on this site, so you will have reading material to hold you over until Mischa gets here. as for the kitty, we have two cats and they hate sirius. mostly because he is evil and barks at them whenever they try to come smell him. One of them is starting to open up to him, but i can tell its going to take some time. just be patient and they will get used to eachother. Give Jasper the same amount of attention and he will be fine. he may be a little put off like our cats at first, but all animals are so different its hard to say! ok sorry for the novel. Def keep us updated. Ask you breeder for some pics and post them!! :]
