| Lots of Accidents! I know I probably shouldn't be posting this, but I just can't take it any more. Admin, please don't get mad at me for this post, but I am very concerned. (VERY CONCERNED) It seems that there has been a lot of accidents with tiny female yorkie, getting pregnant by accident. Now people, don't get upset if yours was really an accident, and for all I know all of them could have been accidents. But we are talking about our fur babies here. Either you buy a yorkie for just the pure pleasure of having one or you buy a yorkie for breeding. If you have a tiny one you need to spay her as soon as possible. Don't you guys realize that you are taking your females life in your hands. I'm sorry I know if Christmas, but its really starting to bother me with all the "Oh my gosh my tiny female yorkie is pregnant and I'm worried" Maybe you should have worried before then, If you have a male and a female and you don't plan on geting her pregnant you need to take responsibility and get one of the two fixed..

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | My heart breaks when I see those posts too but unfortunately many people come here after the fact looking for advice...but it really is hard to read sometimes - what scares me even worse is how many people are out in the world that don't even bother to try to get advise - I have a feeling it's a way bigger number than we want to think it is. The other thing I want to add - is WHEN someone comes here who has a tiny and wants to breed - please take ALL the posts into consideration - many people say things in different ways... and rather than be offended - try to remember.... we always have the Yorkies BEST INTERESTS in our hearts - We want to help the person.... but what's best for the YORKIE comes first. |

| I get really aggravated over the posts about the accidents too. I just think people should take breeding more seriously. It is more than just putting two dogs together. I could have been a breeder myself have a male and a female. When they were of age I had them spayed and neutered because I didnt want to take any chances.

| Accidents do happen. And when they do you should start prepareing to handle the situation that lies ahead no matter how much it will cost. The easy way is to let momma just have the puppies. The responsible way of handling an 'Opps' is to get with a vet take every precaution plan a c-section don't let that poor momma go into labor. Spend the money and get xrays ultra sounds and progestrone tests to take every precaution. All of these tragic deliveries can usually be avoided if you give the mom the best prenatal care money can buy. Problem is many don't want to spend the money or just don't know better. Talk to your vet if your worried, talk to several vets get opinions. If you don't have the money to do it, get a 2nd job. I can't understand when people say Oh I can't afford Xrays or I can't afford blood work. Then you can't afford to breed. You have to have money to breed. Not be rich but have money. Sorry another passionate moment came over me. I am not directing this at anyone just wanting to put the info out there so those that are honestly concerned about what to do can know what to expect. This is not just for tines this is life when you breed. Take it from me. My vet joked with me, he thanked me for helping him build a new clinic because I spend so much money on my breeding program. I am glad because it means bigger and better things to come for my breeding program. I digress.. I made my point up there somewhere..lolol |

| If someone has a tiny (under 5 lb) unspayed female and a intact male living in the same household the result is not an accident. It's pretty obvious what the result is going to be eventually. I really have to assume that breeding was the plan eventually and the only accident was the timing. It's pretty hard to forget to get a dog fixed if it has regular vet care. Vet's are very quick to recommend spaying and neutering and even send reminders if you don't do it by 6 months!

| Don't get me wrong, I realize that accidents do happen, and I understand that.. (I was even an accident myself, LOL, Thats what my mother told me!!) Anyway, I don't mean to get anyone upset and I sure as heck don't want to fight with anyone! I just want people to try to be more responsible.. I have two females and a male now, Neither of my girls are "tiny" and I do intend to breed. But if the time comes and we have an "accident" I will know that my girls are big enough to have a healthy pregnancy. AS I took the time to have them vet check and looked into their back grounds. People just try to be more responsible with your babies! Have a Merry!!

| Good post, Karen. Most accidents could have been prevented. |

| I agree with you. I think we should list ways to prevent an accident. I think the best way is to get the female fixed as soon as possible. I also think that breeders should also take responsiblity by making contracts and sticking to them when a tiny female is involved. Also, I think if it is believed that the dog's life is truely in danger, and the vet thinks it is the best option, to terminate the pregnancy. |

I do the exact same thing as you . Too often , peoples ask for pet puppies and later they decide to breed them .

I just incorporated this in my breeding program. I have not had a tiny that I had to alter YET. If I do have a tiny I will not let it go unaltered. Too much of a risk so many greedy hands want to get a hold of a tiny boy or girl and breed it..they dont' care about limited AKC..they can register the pups CKC. I will keep them until they are a year if I have to. But my program is very small and I don't ususally produce tinies. I do this so I can sleep at night knowing my babies won't be bred on purpose or accidental. Merry Christmas. Irene
