| Heartworm Hi----I am new to this Site. I have a Question to ask you Yorkie Owners. My Vet gave me Iverhart Max since Iverhart Plus was recalled. I was wondering if anyone's little ones had any Reactions or comments on it. It is scary for me to change. Cricket weighs 7 llbs. Please HELP. |

| I don't have any experience with Iverhart so I can't help there. I wanted to post so this will go to the top so others are more likely to see it. With that said, I wanted to say welcome to YT! You came to the right place to ask any and all questions because we have so many experienced Yorkie breeders and owners here. Also, the way I read your question is that you were giving one form of Iverhart and now (due to recall) your vet has given you another form of the same brand - Iverhart. Is that right? If so, I wouldn't worry about switching. I mean, they can't be that far apart in the base ingredient if they are both the same brand. The only brand (for a Yorkie) that I can comment on is Heartguard Plus. Mandie loves it - I break it into pieces and she does tricks like sit and stay for it because she thinks it is a treat lol Also, she's never had any adverse reaction to it so far so it works for us.

| Heartworm Hi Again~~~ Thank you for your Response. The reason that I questioned Iverhart Max (which is the Generic for Heartgard) is that the one that she was using was Iverhart Plus (the one that some of the lots got recalled) and this one now is Iverhart Max (which the Vet gave me) which has a Tapeworm Medicine in it but all the rest of the Meds in it are the same with lower doses and I am not sure whether to go ahead and give it to her. Does anyone think that she should also have one with Tapeworm Medicine in it? I would appreciate all help. Cricket and I Thank You. |

| I would stay away from the brand if they had a recall and go to heartguard but that's just my opinion.

| I was wondering if heartworm preventative meds were even necessary in so cal. My dogs are on the small side and we don't seem to have a problem with heartworms here. |

| Absolutely! Heart worms can kill your dog the smaller they are the riskier treatment for heart worms is. There was a story on here about a yorkie who got heart worms and died. It is also a very expensive treatment. Don't take the risk give your dog heart worm prevention every month and test yearly. Its not worth the risk. The cost can be the life of your dog.

| Thank You. I do live in an area with Heartworm and Ticks so I have to do it. I think I will change to Heartgard. None of the other Brands have a Tapeworm Med in them except Iverhart Max and if it was that needed, they all would have it. I Love Your Quote!!! Thank You!!! |

| Hi! I'm new to this site. It's nice to meet you all! I have a 9 month old yorkie~. His name is Thumper. Last month, I took him to the vet and she prescribed him heartworm medication--Iverhart Plus. He took his second dose today...he threw up all of his dinner and afternoon training treats! ): I did not realize that there was a recall on the medication...I guess my vet didn't know either. I am planning to go to the vet ASAP to see if she will replace it since I have a 1/2 year pack. Anyways...what brand of heartworm medication would you recommend? I saw Heartguard and Interceptor (sp?) on a couple of threads... Thank you in advance! |
