| so this one is baffling.. Jessie has a very large crate thats one side has a bed, play area and food and water. She can walk through a little doorway to her pee pad. She is about 90 percent successful. (its 5 feet long) lately I have found her lying on her clean pee pad (I change them after she pees/poops as she has no problem walking through her pee or poop) and then peeing in her bed! Today she pooped in it! Now again she is 90% successful so it doesnt always happen. She has to be in the crate when not watched due to her broken leg and the fact that my 4 kids are young and try as I might leave things on the floor. Its for her protection. She gets out numerous times throughout the day and for most of the evening when the kids are home and in the family room. She even has her own small screen porch to roam many times a day. I know she knows the difference. How do I get her to stop lying on her pee pad? She wont lie on the wet part if I dont change it. she moves to the dry part... |

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | Could it be that the bedding is too hot and it is cooler for her to lay on her pads ? Maybe try putting a pee pad in place of her bed and see what she does.

| Maybe she's just getting bored from her medical confinement and inability to excercise. Maybe some new toys woukd help? IDK, just guessing here.

Pups and their silly ways, you never know what triggers them or why they do what they do. Just try to find something that works to break the habit.

| My Chloe did something like this too! We use the potty training puppy apartment and put a washable pee pad on one side and her bed on the other. She would roll around, walk, lie down on her pee pad even if it was used sometimes! She never did go potty on her bed but I know for a fact that sometimes she drops a drip or two of pee once in a while after she goes and has a bit of discharge so I figured maybe her bed has the pee smell which would make it "dirtier" than a freshly cleaned pee pad. Of course, her playpen set up isn't 5ft long. Here's what we did: - we scrubbed down everything and threw her bed in the washer after a good soak with an enzyme cleaner - we changed the layout of her playpen so the potty area of her puppy apartment was furthest away from the activity in the house - we kept her in her playpen even when we were around to monitor and corrected her when we saw her playing around in the wrong area (she of course hated this at first since she's used to being out of her playpen while we're there but we did this too because she had a bit of separation anxiety) - we gave her treats in bed if she was lying down on it quietly - we physically moved her away from the potty area if we knew she had already went and didn't need to go - every time I changed the pee pad I would scrub a bit of the used one on to the clean one so the clean one gets a bit wet I suspect a combination of everything we did above worked cuz now she doesn't go there anymore. She's not 90% potty trained tho...haha we're still trying to get there. |

YT 1000 Club Member | Kareberry has covered the steps very well, but I'll add some others... Keep in mind that our Yorkies are basically little "Scent Hounds" When they "carry" the scent of pee/poop with them, it can effect their perception of their whereabouts. That being in a Living Space, or a Potty Space. Trust me, Yorkies want to be clean, and have those areas separated. It's probably going to be hard to keep up with, but try to give her Paws a quick rinse, when you see evidence of Potty activity. Also, you might reevaluate the type of Pad you're using. Maybe try to select one which is more absorbent, and gets the liquid out of the way a bit quicker. Put some treats in the Living Space of the Pen, and possibly make the Potty Space a bit smaller. You might even make a little separation between the two, like rolling up a towel and making Jessie step over it to get to the Potty Area.

YT 1000 Club Member | Uoops, let me cover one more point... When doing Potty Training, I use layers of Newspaper. And when removing it after a contamination, I never remove it all. Just the top sheets, where it will leave a concentrated scent available for future reference. But, when evidence is found in the wrong area, a thorough cleaning and descenting of the location should be done.

| Thanks for all the advice. She held her pee for 10 hours last night in her medium crate in my daughters room. She came down this morning, peed in her crate and then had a run around and breakfast. I put her in her crate for a bit and while she did pee on the ppee side most of it missed the pad..So she got a foot bath. Then she got to run around for an hour. Late morning I left her in it for two hours while I did errands....I came home to....poop everywhere! She pooped in the potty side and stepped in it and dragged it all over her living area. I was so upset. I took her and put her in a tub again, cleaned her off then put her on the porch (its 80 degrees) then I cleaned and enzymed the entire area. She just doesnt seem to care about walking in it! I know there were pool people here so maybe she got over excited but yuck. I bought the pee pads from pet smart but I have to tell you the pad is always wet.they are pretty thin too.. |

| LOL! Sorry you had to go through all that! I'm laughing now cuz we went through that too at one point. Do you know how she is when you're away? Reason I'm asking is because we put up a camera so I can monitor Chloe while we're at work which is how I found out about the anxiety issues. Let me tell you, Chloe pooped SOFT poo cuz I had introduced her to new foods the night before, stepped on it with her front paw, walked all over her playpen, stood up with her dirty feet on the pen, the cage, the food mat, everything. XD She did ALL this 15 minutes before I had to leave for work!!! I've tried all the disposable pee pads at Petsmart with the exception of the Martha Steward brand. I think the best one really is the most expensive one and I bought it (Natures Miracle Advanced) because it is supposed to prevent the pee tracking. But I find the washables are still better so now I have the box of disposables on hand for special situations. After she poos since we use washables I pick it up to flush. Chloe likes to come and sniff at it to see what I'm doing and every time she gets remotely close I go "eww..yucky" and push her away. I'm sure it will take some time but they're so smart, eventually, I'm sure your baby will get it! |

| I always take up the poo and flush too...just not today because it was a flattnened pancake explosion! She never minded being alone before. I leave on animal planet or just the tv for her. I think now that she gets out of the crate(she was restricted for 8 weeks due to a broken leg) she wants out ALL the time and is rebelling. She is still not supposed to run but geez the poor dog has been through enough so I let her out to zoom for a few minutes then out to the smaller screen porch to calm down then back in the family room where she walks around sniffing EVERYTHING for the 400th time. She hasnt peed or poo poo'd in the family room rug or hardwood but we all watch her like a hawk.. I took her off royal canin calm and put her on the yorkie formula because I could only find the huge bag and Ill tell you she is alot more wired..I may switch back.. |
