| help Top knot and scratching. Hi there. . . My yorkie is one years old and a few months ago I cut her top knot of. I decided to cut it of because she always scratch herself and her top knot. But now she look like a boy and she look funny to me. And why does she scratch her so. Can it be her shampoo and conditioner or some allergies or do you guys think that I should buy hypoallergenic shampoo? And how long will it take for her top knot to grow back. "She has a cotton coat". Thanks . . . |

| What shampoo and conditioner are you using? If could be that, or what are you feeding her? The food could do it too. How short did you cut her hair? It may take a while to grow long, but you should be able to put it up within a couple months, I know Joeys hair grows really fast.

| My boys scratch their top knots when they have hair in their eye, or when a hair is pulled wrong or too tight in the top knot. Make sure the top knot isn't too tight and pulling skin or part of the ears. Could be a skin problem. Does her skin look red or irritated or flaky on top of her scalp? You could try a different shampoo, something mild and formulated for dogs. A hypoallergenic shampoo can't hurt. Be sure to rinse with clean water really well. Soap residue can cause itching. You can also add an organic coconut oil or fish oil supplement to her diet for her skin. The time that it will take for her top knot to grow back depends on the speed her hair grows. It's different for every dog, but cotton coats tend to grow faster.
