| Question about clothes So I bought Matthias a beautiful sweater to wear for when we have to out or for his potty visits outside. I think dressing him up is going to be fun as his wardrobe expands. However, my husband is scoffing at it all. He understands the sweater since it is chilly out and Matt is still a puppy. But his whole stance on clothes for animals is "I can't understand putting clothes on a dog when it has to deal with all that fur nature gave it already to keep it warm. Poor dogs have to be sweating to death." Yorkies are small breeds and I have heard that they just don't put out the body heat of a larger breed. I have also heard that one of the reasons doggie clothes, especially for toy breeds, is so popular is not only because they are cute, but also because they are necessary. I would like some confirmation on the necessary part if there is any. I would also like to hear what other think in general on doggie clothes. Thanks much!

| I totally agree on your opinion! My husband thinks it is the most ridiculous thing in the world, to put clothes on dogs. I am always telling him that when we get our Yorkie home in a few weeks, he will wear clothes. Ask him how many Yorkies he sees out in the wild, in nature! I bet not too many, so I think they need a little extra coverage. |

| Hi, Hope the little darling is doing fine today! You can tell your hubby that yorkies do not have an undercoat as most dogs do and that thin little bit of hair they do have does NOT keep them warm. They tend to be chilly a lot of the time.

| Your little Matthias is adorable ... and like yorkieusa said ... has no warm undercoat like most dogs. Although our Toto has a long "show coat", she sometimes gets cold in the summer!! She stays cold all winter long and has to at least wear a little T-shirt most of the time! We bundle her up when we take her outside in winter ... she's tiny, but has always been very healthy. We just take care of her like we did our children! Tell your Hubby, that it's perfectly acceptable for Yorkie "guys" to wear clothes ... there are lots and lots of very "manly" things out there!!

| Put a Jersey of your husband's favorite sport team or nascar driver on your pup and see how much he scoffs then! Check out barkindogclothes.com for some cute stuff!

| I'm fixing to go back to Petsmart tonight to pick up some PJ's for Matthias. Right now, just to be on the safe side, he sleeps with his sweater on. We keep the house set at 72 year round between heat and air conditioning for the seasons. But I'm always cold so I worry that he might be too. And he really doesn't mind the sweater at all. He doesnt' try to worm out of it or scratch at it.

| I was thinking about the Nascar thing too...on one of the forums there is an owner who wanted to dress her male like a girl..Who would know unless they turned him upside down and checked his bottom. How about the top knot?? I saw the cutest Yorkie once dressed in a motorcycle jacket. His dad made a helmet out of a turtleshell and it was the cutest thing you ever saw..Dogs will strut around when they are dressed.. |
