| short hair hello all. i'm new here so please forgive me if i am asking a 'common' question. i am looking for a yorkie for my family for Christmas. we live in a very rural area in south carolina and yorkies are very hard to find around here. i did, however, run across one this week that is only 30 miles away. the guy has had her for 4 months. he said that she would not sell due to her short hair. he guarantees her health but says that her hair will not get any longer than 3 inches. this is perfectly fine with us but should i be concerned? he sold the other puppies for $900 but is going to give her to us for $450. that also is great for us because i am on disability and we are on a fixed budget. i think finding this dog is a blessing but i want advice from others who know more than i about yorkies. thanks all and may God bless you all! |

| I can't imagine how he would know that her hair would not grow more than 3 inches, unless he knows she is not full blood Yorkie and then I'm still now sure how he would know that, for sure. Maybe someone else has more knowledge about this then me though -

| There are lots of Yorkies that don't have floor lenght coats . It doesn't that he or she is not purebred , it means that the breeders bought cheap ones as breeding stock . |

| I'm not sure what he means either. Perhaps some of the breeders will help you. I just wanted to mention that a lot of people prefer to keep the hair short because its easier. Perhaps it is a blessing and you won't have to spend as much on grooming... Good luck!!

| If a Yorkie has short hair --- why would it mean that the breeder bought cheap ones as breeding stock??? Certainly some good breeders with very good Yorkies have puppies from time to time that are less than perfect. Aren't these the puppies that they sell as "pet quality." And, they are, of course, wonderful pets just like all Yorkies are. I think a lot of people are going to take exception that statement.... And - I agree that a lot of people do keep their pet Yorkies with puppy cuts or short hair. They are also darling that way and much easier to keep up. Carol Jean |

| I would also ask the breeder why he thinks the hair won't grow on this particular yorkie and see what his response is.

| Also - if she is very young, how does he know how long her hair will grow? Maybe it's short for her age. Personally, it wouldn't bother me. I love the puppy cut. And, if grows 3 inches, you can still have a lot of other fun cuts too. Plus - you got her at a wonderful price. I'm sure she will be a wonderful little pet. Carol Jean |

| Hmmm, that is a very interesting comment to make about a puppy's coat. I would really question why he knows this info and still be a little skeptical of him. Probably a good chance the pup isn't a pureblooded Yorkie. If that doesn't bother you then take the pup home but I would negotiate that price a whole lot more!!!!!!!

| I think I have read before about some purebred Yorkies whose coats just don't get as long as others. You should ask him about this. Ask him if he is sure that it is a purebred Yorkie - and ask him what makes him think that the hair will always be short. Carol Jean |
