| There are several varieties, but here's the ingredients list for the original: Beggin' Strips Original Bacon Flavor 3 oz. Ground wheat, corn gluten meal, wheat flour, ground yellow corn, water, sugar, glycerin, meat, hydrogenated starch hydrolysate, soybean meal, bacon fat preserved with BHA, salt, sorbic acid (a preservative), artificial smoke flavor, calcium propionate (a preservative), glyceryl monostearate, phosphoric acid, choline chloride, added color (red 40, blue 1, yellow 5, yellow 6). All the bolded is a red flag for me. Esp it says "meat". What kind of meat? That is so vague it could be roadkill. It needs to say from beef, chicken, fish, etc. Also why does there need to be artificial colors? And it has corn, not to mention all the other stuff that I don't even know what it is! I would def skip this and give an organic one ingredient jerky or home made treat.

| According to this article, things preserved with BHA are also a no no. Where?s the Beef? Why your dog should never eat another Milk-Bone or Beggin Strip, and you should avoid the Slim Jims. | Dirty Popcorn

| I've given them to my bigger dog several times (not often) and it's a nice change up in treat for him. But, with that said, I wouldn't give it to my Yorkie because I just don't think her little system can process stuff as well as a larger dog.

| Not at all. You couldn't pay me to feed these to my dogs. There are so many things out there that are better... Skip the Beggin Strips!

| From what I can find, they are manufactured in North America, but that doesn't change my opinion: Killing Me Softly: The Truth Behind Pet Treat Labels | Pasados

| Add Pupperonis and Milk Bones to the list of things never to give to dogs. Anything that has "meat" as an ingredient. "Ever glance at a pet food label and see an ingredient called “meat?” Would you buy anything in the grocery store’s meat section that’s just identified as “meat” on the label? What exactly qualifies as “meat” and “by-products”? Here’s a hint: The FDA has found pentobarbital (the euthanasia drug) in our pet’s food. According to the FDA, “meat” for animal feed comes from: “independent [rendering] plants that obtain animal by-product materials, including grease, blood, feathers, offal and entire animal carcasses from the following sources: butcher shops, supermarkets, restaurants, fast-food chains, poultry processors, slaughterhouses, farms, ranches, feedlots, and animal shelters.”

| I'm convinced chicken jerky started Tibbe's tummy troubles, which culminated in a 6 or 7 vet visit illness and several medications and food trials in June this year. He was sick, feeling bad and didn't play for a whole month among all his other symptoms and problems that month. No more jerky type treats for him - just kibble treats or treats made in the microwave from his dog food.

| Beggin Strips and 99% of the treats you find in department stores and pet stores are terrible. They are a combination of items that are mixed together and made to resemble a food product. There is nothing "natural" about these treats. They are junk food for dogs only about 100x's as bad. Dogs do not have the ability to deal with the artificial ingredients plus things like sugar, sodium, artificial colors and preservatives. No, it probably won't kill your dog right away but over time our pets are developing the same diseases that humans are suffering from....diabetes, obesity, cancer, heart disease, teeth that are rotten at a very young age to name only a few. As Americans we are accustomed to buying foods in boxes and bags but we hardly ever take time to consider how a food product can sit on a shelf for months at a time and still be consumable. Real food is perishable unless it is dehydrated or canned. Check out the ingredient lists and see how many items are there that you cannot identify or that you can identify and realize that it is not really food! In the Healthy and Diet area here on YT there is a "sticky" that contains recipes to make home made treats and meals. Personally, I feed grain free but most home made treats are much better than what you find in the store. I dehydrate meats and sweet potatoes for Gracie and I also by some dehydrated meat treats for her. |

Zachary's Mom Donating Member | My gang, because some of them are a bit chubby, get treats the size of a big pea. We take one Beggin Strip type treat (PetCo has the big bag on sale for $9.99) and 6 dogs treat off it for 5 or 6 days. I have numerous recipes, hundreds perhaps of homemade treats but because of the arthritis, it is hard for me to stand for long periods of time and they never get made. I figure a tiny treat a couple times a day won't hurt them, I HOPE... Louise |
