So, to make a long story short, the electric griddle malfunctioned and sprung a leak and got grease everywhere, and Jaeger decided to sit underneath the drips like a kid at a soda fountain. He's fine, and getting rice for dinner...but I do have a problem-his face is caked with bacon grease.

How do I get it off of him? Water isn't going to cut it is it? What's gentle enough for his face?

?Vaseline or mineral oil? Then a regular bath.

Get all you can with paper towels first!

Got all I could with paper towels. It wasnt hot or warm when it dripped on him thank goodness, but now he's running around like a crazy man rubbing his face on it.

As crazy as this may sound -- dishwashing detergent. After all, it's made to "cut grease". Be sure to rinse, and rinse, and rinse until he's completely clean.

Dawn Original... the only one that rinses clean with no residue... used for de-oiling waterfowl... You can put a protective ointment in his eyes first or a drop of mineral oil.

Yeah Dawn is best thing for cleaning grease

I found this on line:

Mix 1 tsp. of Dawn dish washing detergent into 1 qt. of warm water.

Wet the dog's coat to the skin.

Pour the diluted Dawn dish washing detergent on the dog starting at the back of the head, along the spine and to the base of the tail. Work the soap into the coat with your fingertips.

Let the lather stand in the dog’s coat for approximately five minutes. Rinse with warm water until it runs clear. Follow up with coat conditioner, if desired.

Dry the dog with a towel. Brush and blow dry the dog as needed.

Thanks for all the advice you guys. We tried the baby oil first, to act as a carrier oil to get rid of the bacon grease. It helped, but he still has that drowned rat look. I was concerned to use dawn because it's so harsh, and the only place i need to use it is on his face. I dont have any plain mineral oil for his eyes, and the dawn we have says "Original Scent. Extra Concentrated." Do they all say 'extra concentrated?'

He's miserable, but I dont want to make him worse.

You can dilute it at least 50/50 with water. If it's on top of his head, hold his head up (under the chin). You can apply the Diluted Dawn with a cotton ball, wiping away from the eyes. Adjust the water spray to gentle-medium, and point blank range so the rinse water runs from his forehead back, and some will run down his nose and to either side under his eyes. If the soapy water gets in his eyes, just keep rinsing until the soap is gone. Adjust the spray so the water runs gently over his eyes till the soap is gone.

He could do damage to his eyes by continuing to rub his head trying to get the oil/grease off.

My Yorkie got stuck in a sticky roach trap. He tried to chew it off his feet (he had one on each foot). The glue was all over his head by the time I got home from work. The only thing I found to cut the glue was that Orange Hand cleaner that mechanics use. It contains petroleum distillates, so I had to work fast to get the glue off, then wash him with Dawn to get the Orange stuff off him. As most of it was in his hair, I concentrated my efforts their first, then I went down to the skin, and a quick wash and rinse.

I tried it, might not have used enough Dawn. The fur on his head is still greasy...sigh.
