I use a blow dryer set on cool to dry them, and I use Bio-groom products...smells wonderful and leaves their coat really shiney.

| 1. Be patient and upbeat when you groom, and assertive at the same time. Make it a happy experience. If he senses your frustration or anxiety, he will mirror your feelings and want to get away. When you brush, make sure you are not tugging on his skin. Brush and comb in sections, holding the hair with one hand to prevent skin tugging while you brush with the other hand. Save brushing time for when he is tired from activity, and follow up with treat rewards or an activity he loves. I started Max out with brushing when he was tired, but then I tied brushing to going for a walk. He knows he has to be brushed/combed at least a little before we go outside. 2. For drying, first I wrap my boys in a towel and hold them for a few minutes to get as much water off of them as possible. Then I use the hairdryer on low heat and keep the dryer moving at all times to prevent burning their delicate skin. 3. Great products! Finding the perfect shampoo and conditioner for your pup takes a little testing. Be sure to rinse shampoo out really well. This will help make the hair silky. Some people use a tiny bit of apple cider vinegar diluted in water for a final rinse to remove soap residue, although a good shampoo shouldn't leave residue. Conditioner closes the cuticle of the hair shaft to make it look and feel smooth, silky, and shiny.

| How old is Dodger? Grooming at least once a day is a must, if they need it or not. That is because it becomes a training session and they learn to expect and accept it. When Gracie was a crazy puppy she didn't like grooming either. She would try to mouth me and bite at the comb. I always use a metal grooming comb. They come in a variety of sizes. For a puppy, just do at least 2 or 3 comb throughs a day. As long as the hair remains mat free it should only take a minute to do. As they get older and the fur starts to get longer the grooming time will slowly increase. Always give a healthy reward when finished grooming. Gracie used to run away from me after I combed her until I started giving her a treat when we were done. Now, she just kind of hangs around until she gets her reward! I generally comb her on my lap. I use the Yorkie Splash and Shine products. I wash her twice and then condition. There are other natural products out there that are good as well. Gracie has a silky coat so the YSS products work well on her. A cotton coat may need a stronger conditioner. I also use the spray conditioner on her ends when combing between baths. She has long hair so the ends can tangle at times. Especially if she has been out in the morning wet grass. Just stay away from the regular shampoos that use sulfates and conditioners that use silicone. You will get a much better result with an all natural product. My groomer uses WEN on her and she looks and smells fantastic afterward. I have not chosen to switch to it yet but I have considered it. |

| To your #1: I think it's also good to let them know what is being used on them. We give Tigger his brush to smell and sniff before we brush him. We also show him the hairdryer and let him sniff that as well (unplugged of course). He's great with both of them and actually loves the hair dryer, but we used to put his brush on the floor and let him explore with it for a while before brushing him. Just my opinion. |

| Make grooming a positive thing... Treats and praise! I hold my two in my lap when I groom them. I use a blow dryer on low heat after their baths and they love it. They jump in my lap and ask to be dried

| Milo don't mind a bath. I dry him with a towel then he will roll around on the carpet then hop in my lap for me to blow dry him. I use low heat. He loves the blow dryer. He really don't like the brush tho. Then when we finish he gets a green bean. That his favorite part.

| Yorkies love to do this thing where they rub themselves by pushing their head down wards so what I do have 2 towels when I bath. One to use for drying off and 1 to lay on the table so that he can freely do his ritual which by the time he's done he's half way dry. Then I give him a treat then swab his ears with a Q tip which he loves so he will sit there all day for that. I think they like it because it's itchy when it's wet so when you swirl the cotton swab it's like a mini ear massage. |
