Default Adoption pending!!

Hello everyone. I am Julianne and brand new to the forum. We are on vacation in Florida and have been visiting the humane society each week to visit and love on the animals and we found this yorkie, (well he's a mixture or sorts) and fell in love. He is from a puppy mill and when he was rescued, the lovely ladies said he didn't even know how to play. He would poop in his little house and didn't seem to have a desire to do much..We cannot have pets where we are staying on vacay so we have been crossing our fingers that no one adopted him before it was time for us to go home..AND we get him TOMORROW!

He is wild and silly, but loves for us (my girls are 6 and 9) to sort of massage his back and head. He is already somewhat bonded to the caregivers at the pound so I know he CAN love.

He is about 11 pounds but ALL LEGS! They had to shave him to the skin because he was one big matted mess..But as his hair has grown over this month, he is looking much better!

My daughters are tickled that he is big enough to play fetch, yet small enough to go places with us!

As his hair grows in, he looks like he has sort of curly-ish hair..He may be mixed with a poodle??

ANYWAY, we can't wait to get him and love him and squeeze him!! One question though, how can we improve his breath? My little one says he needs a mint?
Would teeth brushing help or is this a vet visit we need to plan for??

Sounds awesome! My gal Roxy had bad breath too. She was my rescue gal, she didn't have dental care. We had teeth cleaned, and some pulled, she loved greenies there's some biscuits and treats that can help too.

Good luck to you and your new addition to your family!

Hi and Welcome to YT! Congratulations on your new pup! He's probably going to need to see the vet for his breath. Yorkies in general need to have their teeth cleaned and checked every year or so. Brushing can help too. Good Luck!

congrats on your new addition and bless you for adopting a shelter pet.
As for his breath , if he is an older dog he may be due for a dental cleaning.
Probably a trip to the vet to get that checked would be a good idea

Welcome. It's wonderful that you are taking this little fella into your home and family. It does sound like he could be a Yorkie Poodle mix. Any long haired dog is going to need a lot of grooming. Get a good metal grooming comb and pin brush and groom him daily.

Do you know how old he is? Puppy mills usually feed their animals poor quality food that tends to speed up the rotting of their teeth. When you get him to a vet he should have them cleaned. I hope that he doesn't have to lose any as many puppy mill dogs do.

He is going to require time to adjust to his new surroundings. He has lived for a very long time in a small filthy cage so going out into the big bright would could be confusing to him at first. I think there is a thread here on YT about dealing with a puppy mill dog.

Hi, and congratulations! It is so great that, while you were vacationing, you were also thinking of little homeless fur babies and are taking one home with you. What a lucky little guy he is to have stolen your hearts!!!

You have already received some good suggestions, so I will only add that after and in addition to whatever your vet suggests, do try to get him on as 'good' a diet as you can afford...free of chemicals, grains, etc...stuff dogs shouldn't eat...lol...organic, if possible, supplements, whatever to get him as healthy as possible. Coconut oil (organic, virgin) is good for them, also, and my Yorkies love it! Good health starts with a proper and nutritious, species bio-appropriate diet.

Enjoy your new baby, have a safe trip home, and don't forget to post photos of your special little guy!

Congratulations on your new baby!!! I bet that everyone will have a little trouble sleeping tonight because I'm sure you're counting the minutes until you go pick up your newest family member

Regarding his teeth, I agree with everyone that he would probably not have had a dental in a very long time.. and if from a puppy mill..there's a pretty good chance that he has never had one. So, I would definitely have your vet examine him and talk with them about having a dental cleaning done. But I would definitely want a vet to look at him to make sure there aren't any other underlying issues going on.

But again, CONGRATULATIONS!!! I am so excited for you and your family!!!
