| New here and new mom Hello I've just joined and look forward to lots of Yorkie talk and useful advice. I've got four beautiful dogs, and my two yorkies are 3 year old Toby and 11 week old Jessie J. (Jessie is the cutipie in my profile pic). I absolutely love the breed. They are so intelligent and so full of personality. My first baby was a Yorkie. We lost him last year and he is still so missed. After this Toby came to live with us. He had all sorts of behaviour issues, still has a few, but he is the most affectionate and loving little man and he is just an amazing dog and we love him. Jessie has been here just three weeks now. She is just unbelievably cute and such a little live-wire. My other dogs have all accepted her and they put up with her really well . She even had her face licked all over by Toby the other day. I think mayby Toby is getting all paternal . |

| Thanks so much for the lovely welcome. I will work on figuring out how to do pics on here.. at least I've managed to get my avatar in place now which is what I thought was the profile pic. but for a bit of fun.. here is a link to a video of my mad lot We collected Jessie a day before she was 8 weeks by the way. That's pretty normal round here, is it considered too early in the states? The breeder offered to let me have her at 6 weeks!! But I didn't want her here till she could race around and dodge all of our other dogs though. Waiting those last two weeks nearly killed me lol! |

| Welcome to YT. I know what you mean, here in South Africa puppies are released at 8 weeks too. Some are starting to keep them till 10 weeks, but then they use terms like "teacup" which scare me away. So I will also most probably be getting my next little babie at 8 weeks! But I'm thankful that atleast this time around she'll have Ziggy as a role model

| Jessie is adorable...it's always funny to watch them play with toys that are as big as (or bigger) than they are

| Hi all: I'm new here and a new mom as of today! I've been wanting a pup for awhile but have had some resistance from some because I'm not an animal person. I knew I wanted a small little dog tho'. For company and not gonna lie, the exercise. I work shift work which makes it challenging but I'm up for it. I went to simply look at a pup today and ended up bringing him home. Filoup (fee-loo) is 2 and a half and weighs 5 lbs. That appealed to me as my work schedule would make it that much more challenging to potty train a baby. He's been in his new home about an hour. He had the run of his old house (except at bedtime time when he would be crated) and did well. I initially put him in the gated off spot I was going to keep him but he cried and barked and well I thought since it's only been an hour, that perhaps I should see how he does around the house. (small 2 level condo) So far so good. He did pee once in the spot where I was going to put his pee pads. I immediately picked him up saying "no" and carried him upstairs to where the pee pad was currently. I tried to get him to stay on that until he peed but I guess he was totally done. He is pee pad trained as well as outdoor trained. I have since moved his pee pads and crate downstairs to the area I am going to keep him in when i have to work. I'm nervous about leaving him for the day. I don;t really have anyone who can check on him but I'm comforted knowing he can pee inside. It'd be totally ideal if he could have the run of the house while I am gone so I don't feel bad about leaving him in a small space. I have all of the things he is used to from his old home and am using everything. I don't want to introduce anything new until he and I are better acquainted. I've thought about taking him for a walk later but again, I don't know if I should hold off because I want to give him time to get used to the new sites and smells here. He seems to enjoy the patio doors looking out into the world. He yips at squirrels so far, but responds when I say "no". He is french and so I'm using both french and english when talking to him. I eventually want to change his name but I don't know to what, so I'm leaving as is. I know I need to stay the boss in the house so I'm trying to be in control. I need to step out later for about an hour. I think that will be good because tomorrow at 3pm I go to work. I will welcome any advice, suggestions and help. I'm excited to be a mom to this little guy but it's sinking in that I am, and I'm starting to panic. Thanks!! |

| Before finding YT I had always heard that 8 weeks was "the time" to send pups to their new homes. Some even let theirs go by 6 weeks! This is the only place I've ever heard of waiting until 12-14 weeks of age!
