Days & nights mixed up.... HELP!!!! I picks up my yorkie girl 5 days ago. How do I keep her awake during the day after she's been up crying all night? I try & take her out of the crate & she just climbs back in. Needing a good nights sleep.

Hi! Congrats on ur new pup! I know with McKenzie when I first got her I would sit her crate right next to my bed with it facing me so she could see me. That helped alot. Also occassionally if she got fussy i would stick my finger n the crate so she feel me, or i would open the door and pet her a little. As for keeping her up, you shouldn't have to worry about actually doing so. Puppies sleep a lot so even if she sleeps a lot during the day she will still sleep at night as well if she feels comfortable. Just stick to ur daily routine and let her get her rest time. Oh, if you want u can also put a shirt or something of urs in the crate with her at night. But i found keeping her crate close worked best for me. Good luck!

Thanks for the encouragement futureyorkiesmom. I took your advice & put in her crate an old sock I had been wearing all day & she slept all nIght without crying! We still have her in the family room at night since hubby does not want her in our room. Hoping since we are starting this early she will learn is bedtime but Mommy comes back in the morning.

I'm glad it worked out for you! If that is where you want her to sleep long term then, yes it is good to start early. She just needs to feel secure and having something of yours helps. Hope it continues to go well!
