How neccessary are shoes in the winter time? - YorkieTalk.com Forums

We will be taking Simba to Germany and it's going to be really cold and snowy. I have a ski coat, warm wool sweaters and well as fleece pj's already for him but I was wondering how neccessary shoes are. I know that Yorkies don't have fur and therefore need something to protect them but are paws just paws as well? Are small breed paws more sensitive than big breed paws? I also don't want to be too overly protective but of course I want what's best. Any advice/opinions would be great.

Well of course, as you know the pads on dogs feet are just like sneakers for us. So I am guessing the only thing that you would have to worry about is the thin hair around his ankles. So just treat him like you would if he was wearing sneakers. Now I'm not big on them but if you're going over to Germany now in this season I would suggest using the boots. It would probably keep him alot warmer.

What type of shoes or boots do you use or suggest? Do you have a hard time keeping them on your dogs feet? I tried a set on Vivis paws and she hated them. Do your dogs like them?
